Looking for friendly competition? Love coffee? More importantly, love the game of chess? Join the South Bay Chess Club for competitive and casual games against complete strangers, and friends alike. This group is open to everybody; experienced and non-experienced players are welcome! If you're looking to learn the game, this is a great opportunity to shadow some games before jumping into the fold.
All players are required to bring their own chess set. This alleviates the risk of having no board to play with. The Coffee Cartel has plenty of boards that we can use if you choose not to bring one yourself.
It's customary to purchase a beverage or snack while we use the coffee shop.
Lastly, this group is meant to be a fun, recurring event for people to join together and play some chess. All ages, genders, shapes and sizes are welcomed. Any behavior that is considered unsportsmanlike or disruptive will be asked kindly to leave the chess meetup. This includes the most important rule to the game: shaking your opponent's hand, win or lose.
Donations are recommended, but not required. However, Meetups.com does work on a subscription basis, so your donations are most generous!
Good luck, and have fun.
"I am still a victim of chess. It has all the beauty of art - and much more. It cannot be commercialized. Chess is much purer than art in its social position." - Marcel Duchamp
