Ride through the Mar Vista GREEN Garden Showcase

Hello Cruisers!

Well if you know me then you know I love gardening. My favorite local gardening event is coming up and I'd like to invite others to join me if you please :) I rode through most of the showcase last year and it made a lovely ride.

If you'd like to ride together we'll meet in the vicinity of the neighborhood at 9:45 am and take off at 10 am when the showcase officially begins. Park on residential streets in this vicinity. I will have copies of their maps to give out, the community council has recommended walking routes and following those by bike is very easy. This will also be a great ride for beginners and families - there will be lots of stops to check out the gardens up close, kids will be selling lemonade and goodies, it is mostly flat. There is one section with some largish hills which we can avoid if we have young riders, or walk up if we are determined anyways ;) I plan to ride the whole showcase and stay till it ends at 4pm. You are welcome to come and ride as long as you want and head home early if you like.

The Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase is a community event organized by the Mar Vista Community Council. There are a large number of homes in this area of LA actively working to make their outdoor spaces drought tolerant, sustainable, productive and beautiful. Ninety residents of Mar Vista are opening their gardens to the public to view! You can see everything on this tour from an aquaponic greenhouse to chicken coops to school gardens and homes that have been featured in magazines. Most homeowners will be present to speak about what they did with their garden and why and answer questions. There will be handouts of planting lists with native and drought tolerant species. There will be demonstrations. See their info below to get more on that.

You can find detailed info about the showcase on their blog and you can like them on Facebook to get more updates and maps.
