July Book Club - The Power by Naomi Alderman
I decided to postpone June's book club until July, since I was late in posting the meeting due to traveling. I hope to get together before the next meeting, but for some kind of activity, rather than a traditional book club meeting. In July, we will read The Power, by Naomi Alderman. New members are always welcome. Feel free to join us even if you don't finish the book. In The Power the world is a recognisable place: there's a rich Nigerian kid who lounges around the family pool; a foster girl whose religious parents hide their true nature; a local American politician; a tough London girl from a tricky family. But something vital has changed, causing their lives to converge with devastating effect. Teenage girls now have immense physical power - they can cause agonising pain and even death. And, with this small twist of nature, the world changes utterly. This extraordinary novel by Naomi Alderman, a Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year and Granta Best of British writer, is not only a gripping story of how the world would change if power was in the hands of women but also exposes, with breath-taking daring, our contemporary world.

    What we're about

We are an existing book club. Men and women of all ages are welcome to join our group; it's been a great place to meet new friends if you are new in town. We typically meet once a month on Sundays at 6:30 to discuss a book. We choose our books 2 months ahead of time at the meetings by a vote. We usually meet at members houses or at apartment complex community rooms. Meetings are potlucks. We read a mix of fiction and non-fiction. To check out some of our books you can visit our Goodreads group page: We also occasionally hold game and book-related movie nights. Looking forward to meeting you all!
