Our first meetup!

As this will be our first meetup, we will keep it simple. I want the opportunity to meet with all of you and discuss the vision we want for this group. I have always believed the saying, "If you build it, they will come..." (thanks, "Field of Dreams"), so I'd like to get a feel for what people like to do and how often we would like to meet.

I realize that while we have all adopted this alternative but ever-growing way of eating that we will come from many different walks of life and viewpoints. With this in mind, I ask that we approach this group with an open mind and bring the most positive and accepting version of ourselves to this discussion. The one thing I know I don't want is a member to leave feeling unsupported in their endeavor to get healthy.

With that said, I'm excited and looking forward to meeting so many others who have also turned away from the SAD way of eating.

As for snacks, please feel free to bring whatever you like, as long as it is paleo friendly (according to your eating plan). Since each person's body is different, what works for you is what's most important. If you plan to use "grey area" or potential allergen items such as dairy, soy, nuts, eggs, and/or nightshades, that is fine. I assume since all of us are adults, we will also be advocates for our own health and ask what's in a particular item prior to comsumption :)

Unfortunately, I can't attend on the 22nd, but would love to get together again next time. I am also willing to host a paleo potluck dinner for the next meetup if people are interested. Or even a weekend lunch or dinner would be great - I've researched paleo friendly places in OC, so I think we have numerous options....

I will be bringing three books to our meetup that I recently purchased for meal ideas:

    Everyday Paleo, by Sarah Fragoso
    Well Fed, by Melissa Joulwan
    Practical Paleo, by Diane Sanfilippo

If you have any paleo books you wouldn't mind bringing for people to view during our meetup, please feel free to bring then along too!

Heather, If you would like to have the first meeting at my house, I would be happy to host. It wpould be quiet and private for discussing the organization of the group. Nancy

That is very nice of you Nancy, thank you. If you feel comfortable about having complete strangers in your home, then it is okay with me. Thank you again for the offer. :)

Hi Heather, thanks for organizing this group! I love your idea of meeting at a park and bringing our favorite Paleo snacks to share with each other, sunshine and fresh air included. :) Your suggestion to meet at the Whole Foods in Huntington Beach, maybe for lunch or dinner, also sounds great. I haven't been to that specific location but I know the other ones in Orange County have great seating areas and it's nice because they have Paleo food options and everyone can pay separately and then meet up at a table. I just wanted to share my "vote" but I know whatever you decide will be really fun! My date preference is also for June 22 (I can't make the 15th). Looking forward to our first event! :)

The 22nd is better for me as I have a discussion group at my house on the 3rd Saturday, which is the 15th.

    Hello Everyone!
This is awesome! Thank you for showing your interest in this group. I think there is a great need in our community for this and it is obvious by your enthusiasm to join and RSVP to an event without a date, time, or location!

Seriously, I am at a loss for suggestions as to what we should do for our first meet up. I think it will be on a Saturday, a couple of weeks from now, either on the 15th or 22nd of June, late afternoon to early eve, depending upon what we do.

      Some ideas I have are:

Have a "happy hour" style meet and greet at the Whole Foods in Huntington Beach

Anyone know of a Paleo-friendly restaurant to try?

Meet at a Starbucks, Coffee-bean, or maybe a healthier alternative.

Meet at a park, bring a Paleo-friendly snack to share, and use the time to meet and get aquainted. (I'm leaning in this direction, since the bonus is sunshine and fresh air!)

Those are some of my ideas. I'm very interested in hearing from all of you, either by voting for one of the ideas listed above, or suggesting your own idea, to which I would joyously consider. :)

I look forward to hearing from you soon!
