  • Bare metal chatbots!

    Oracle Bristol

Phil Hall - ChatBots in the cloud Everyone and their Mother is trying to make it easy to create ChatBot systems and, at last, start the conversational user interface to computers that has been so long awaited. Sounds like a land grab, or maybe it’s snake oil, or global advertising-surveillance … Do they even work? What is even meant by the term ChatBot? Mini Bio: Phil D Hall has been building ChatBots since 1982. Now the market is here, at last (facepalm), he is balancing some scarily interesting socio-cultural experimental AI systems with more traditional developments mainly in Healthcare, Education & Infotainment. Always keen to support our local tech communities understanding of the realities of talking to and with computers he will position his pragmatic, caustic and hopefully insightful speakers hat. Pulling back the veil from the Wizard of Oz’s dev studio he will explain/investigate; Tools, Platforms, Approaches, Blind alleys, Marketing BS, & History and the Future Thom Leggett - Bare Metal Cloud Building a cloud that does not rely on traditional software virtualisation technology opens up some interesting opportunities for delivering amazing performance, as well as raising some interesting security concerns. This talk will discuss the engineering that goes into building a modern, global scale cloud infrastructure. Thom is an engineering director for Oracle where he works on public cloud infrastructure. He's been doing the cloud thing since 2007 when he deployed his first app to AWS. Since then he's been both a builder and consumer of cloud technologies.
