Is anyone still interested in this? Can we meet at Kaladi Brothers downtown on Saturday?

I don't live downtown but I'd love to meet with some people to practice some basic Spanish. Would this be a recurring event or just a one time shot?

I can never seem to find that group of people, I'm not sure if they are just not showing up. They meet at the Kaladis on Brayton right?

    • John

Yeah, I think that's the location. I haven't made it to that meetup yet, though.

I'll be coordinating an event at the library this Sunday. I may be able to make the 18th. Have a lovely, sunny, day everyone!

Does anyone have a time/ day/ location for this? I think I'm free usually after work around 530 or 6.

We met up once at a coffee shop: Moose a'la Mode, on a Sunday around 11 am, I think. I'd be up for meeting up again sometime. After work around 6 - 6:30 would work for me as well. We could all get dinner at La Cabaña downtown some weeknight maybe. Anyone else interested?

I doubt I can make it as I have a super busy weekend and basically no weekend the 10th as I am going out of town and must prepare. I might be able to make the 18th.

Sounds good. I'll be out of town the 11th and the 18th, so maybe later in May will work. Nos vemos!

It was good meeting you both as well. I could meet up this Sunday again if two are up for it, though I might try to leave by 12-12:30 to go for a hike in this amazing weather we're supposed to have this weekend.

Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you and John. You both have had such interesting, and unique adventures, it made for great conversation. I would hope that we could keep in touch even after you leave paradise (AK).

Good to meet both of you. Had to run for another meeting that Sunday, but hopefully we can have more chats again soon! :-)

This Sunday works best for me, say 1100?

This is great! I did some research and found Moose a la Mode on 4th and K. 274-4884. They are open 9:00-3:30 on Sunday. Glad there is so much interest on another location. I live in Eagle River, so closer is better.

Moose a la Mode looks good. Do we all want to try to meet up this Sunday, or wait until next weekend?

My Spanish is horrible. This is not be being modest. :-) But I AM willing to learn. Sundays downtown work the best for me. I'm on a super tight budget (yeah AmeriCorp!) so coffee shops or low-cost options are my fav. Location ideas? Times?

    April 23, 2014

    • John

Any day could potentially work for me, so Sunday is good. Maybe 10:30 - 11:30 if we're meeting at a coffee shop? I don't really have a favorite, but there is Starbucks, Side Street Espresso, and Kobuk right in downtown. I'm probably missing other cafes. Any other time / location ideas?

I work in midtown and live in east anc so a downtown meetup would be convenient for me. I used to be active in this group but haven't been in awhile, looking to get involved again.

I think it's time to gather intersted folks for some coffee and (Spanglish!) conversation. :-)

I know that there are more folks interested in practicing Spanish in the Downtown area. We just have to connect all the dots...!

A downtown meetup would be great. I'll be living in Anchorage through July and would love to practice my Spanish, but I don't have a car, so making the standing meetup at Kaladi's on 68th Avenue is a bit challenging.

You mentioned it being hard to come into Downtown Anchorage on the weekends. What about a place like Humpy's on a weeknight? I bus, and that's fairly close to the drop-off station...

I work at Elmendorf Hospital. I suggest meeting for dinner during the week perhaps at the little restaurant next to the Sheraton. If we make it 6:00 PM then we don't have to worry about parking fees. Other options would be a restaurant in Tikhatnu Mall, like Olive Garden (I love their soup and salad). I live in Eagle River so it's hard to come to Anchorage sometimes on the weekends.
