Freedom Trail: Lion's Park (Tallmadge) - Tannery Park (Kent) - 6.2 / 10.4 Miles

Ride Name: From the Circle City to the Tree City
Trail: 65 -Freedom Trail/Portage Bike: Lion's Park (Tallmadge) – Tannery Park (Kent)
Rating: Beginner/Intermediate
Ride Type: Out and Back
Distance: 10.4 miles round-trip

Note: This ride is designated as beginner/intermediate due to the short amount of road riding and the hill climb/descent where the Freedom Trail ends and the Portage Bike and Hike begins.

You start your ride in Lion’s Park (Northwest Avenue entrance) in Tallmadge on the Metro Parks Freedom Trail, the newest bike trail in the Akron area. Turning left from the trailhead, follow the shaded trail towards Kent. Crossing Howe Road and cycling over South River Road, you arrive at the trail end at Middlebury Road in Kent.

Cyclists can return to Lion's Park from the Middlebury Trailhead for the 6.2 mile option. Cyclists can continue to Tannery Park for the longer 10.4 mile option.

Turning left onto Middlebury, you cycle down the hill and turn onto the Portage Bike and Hike. You follow the trail along the Cuyahoga River to its end in at Tannery Park. We turn and cycle back to Tallmadge enjoying the sights and sounds of nature along the trail.

Out and back rides are designed with the intermediate and advanced cyclist in mind. These rides cycle out of a trailhead to a set destination, typically 8-10 miles away. After a break, the riders cycle back to the departure trailhead.

Tonight’s ride travels at 10-12 mph and is rated for leisure cyclists who enjoy cycling 10-12 mph on flat trails with an occasional hill or elevation gain. The trail surface is mixed with areas of both asphalt and packed limestone. It is relatively flat with some moderate elevation changes. The ride should be a comfortable ride for the intermediate cyclist. It is ideal for a beginner cyclist who wants a small challenge.

This ride is on the calendar of the Spin-off Cyclists . We encourage you to join us on this and other rides. We are a group of cyclists of all ages and abilities who cycle the trails of Northeast Ohio and surrounding areas for fun, health and friendship.

By accepting this Spin-off Cyclists Bicycle Club event’s RSVP and attending this event, I have read and voluntarily agree to the RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT. I further agree that no oral representations, statements or inducement apart from the foregoing written agreement have been made. I HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THIS DOCUMENT AND RELEASE.
