Ride Name: The Barberton Ride
Trail: 66 -Towpath Trail: Wilbeth Road - Snyder Avenue (Wolf Creek)
Ride Type: Out and Back
Distance: 11.4 or 15.0 miles round-trip
Today's ride is one of the quietest rides on the Towpath in Summit County. We head north for a short distance to cross the floating towpath on the shores of Summit Lake. At South Street, we turn our wheels and head back south to Wilbeth road.
Continuing south from the Wilbeth Road trailhead passing the blue heron rookery on our left. We follow the canal to the Manchester Road trailhead and the shadow of the portaging Indian statue. We continue south with the Tuscarawus River on our left and the Ohio and Erie Canal on our right as we pass through Barberton. Canadian geese, blue herons, and ducks are plentiful as we pedal past angler casting lines from the canal banks.
SHORT RIDE OPTION:
Cyclists can return to the Wilbeth Road trailhead from the Fairview (Barberton) trailhead for the 11.4 mile option. Cyclists can continue to Snyder Avenue (Wolf Creek) for the longer 15.0 mile option.
After a short break at the Snyder Road trailhead, we turn our bikes and begin our trek north to the Wilbeth Road trailhead. The trail is a mixture of asphalt and packed limestone. It is relatively flat with almost no elevation changes.
Out and back rides are designed with the intermediate and advanced cyclist in mind. These rides cycle out of a trailhead to a set destination, typically 8-10 miles away. After a break, the riders cycle back to the departure trailhead.
Tonight’s ride travels at 10-12 mph and is rated for leisure cyclists who enjoy cycling 10-12 mph on flat trails with an occasional hill or elevation gain. The trail surface is mixed with areas of both asphalt and packed limestone. It is relatively flat with some moderate elevation changes. The ride should be a comfortable ride for the intermediate cyclist. It is ideal for a beginner cyclist who wants a small challenge.
This ride is on the calendar of the Spin-off Cyclists . We encourage you to join us on this and other rides. We are a group of cyclists of all ages and abilities who cycle the trails of Northeast Ohio and surrounding areas for fun, health and friendship.
