Bournemouth Spiritual Exchange Fortnightly Meetup

Wanna talk spiritual stuff with like-minded people and have a bit of fun at the same time? Then this group is for YOU!!

It's designed to attract spiritual people of all ages and persuasions, and in our fortnightly meetings the atmosphere is SOCIAL and INFORMAL, allowing people time to talk to friends new and old – in deliberate contrast to an evening dominated by a paid speaker. Above all we like to have FUN and not take ourselves too seriously, so we tend to begin and end our meetings at the bar ;-)

Of course the EXCHANGE of ideas and viewpoints to broaden our horizons is important too, so around an hour and a half is set aside during meetings for a discussion chaired by one of the organisers, during which we adjourn to a meeting room with chairs placed in a circle. In some meetings we deliberately discuss specific topics announced in advance (see our discussion board for more details of future topics). Others are much more free flowing and we tend to just see where the energy takes us.

Above all what the members of this group do is 'come from the heart'. Right from day one that's how it worked out, with members opening up to each other about their spiritual thoughts and inclinations in ways they might not with even their nearest and dearest. You're also welcome even if you think you're a 'beginner', because you've probably had just as many lives as any of us ;-)

We really look forward to welcoming you to our shared journey

PS The charge for room hire is currently £50. Suggested payment with normal turnout in the mid-20s is therefore around £2.50 to cover that cost, collected on the night.

I am about to post a couple of things on the Discussions page but thought I would mention them here because nobody normally goes there!
I think Howard mention that this page isn't really suitable for discussion (limits on size of postings and posts seem to appear all over the place)
One thing to mention here for those of you who can't access discussion on your mobiles - please know that David Chamberlain has spent a lot of time setting up a wonderful blog called Elstead Souls with some great videos he's already posted.
    Here is the link http://elsteadsouls.blogspot.co.uk/
    Thanks David.
I'll leave it to you to explain how others might post there too.

I'd be happy to, if anyone is interested. :) I was also wondering whether we might use that blog as a means of posting a summary of each meeting. Hopefully there might be a few people willing to write about the subjects discussed and also others would be able to comment and add information.

That's bizarre! I bought that book on Amazon a few days ago and it got delivered this morning on my desk as I'm reading your post Dave.
Spiritual connection or somehow you got my amazon account details? :-)
    Take care

Howard wrote: Do you pity me and feel sad for me because I am bothering to put some effort into exploring the validity of this subject? Not at all Howard my sadness I guess is to see the amazing and evidential subjects we like to discuss - mixed up with what I call 'fluffy' material for which there is no evidence. It therefore blurs the margins and to some extent can discredit the subjects with mantras akin to what many of his dislike in religion.

Theories about this and that are of course fine but I do think it's important to delineate which is which. A couple of times last night I heard you saying things as a matter of fact, when you will surely admit they are theories or somebody's conjecture.

Howard asked: Do you have any compelling evidence to disprove any or all of it?

I can't disprove you can balance a thousand angels on the head of a pin or many other fantasies - it's surely your place to prove them, not mine to disprove them.

PS There is a discussion button on this board but people either don't like to use it or say they can't access it from mobile devices

Sorry; can't make it after all - bad cold.

Get well soon Lorna, and we'll see you next time I hope. To be honest it was a bit like herding cats last night and it may have been just as well that there was one less for me to herd :-)

Pussy cat Lorna would have purred the dissenting voices into perfect peace!

    Part 1
    A few thoughts...

Interesting meeting with such a wide diversity of views about what spirituality actually is, which proved I guess that what it isn't, is always agreeing with one another!

And yet does anyone dispute that when we do find people who mirror our own views - we somehow feel more in harmony and we maybe mistakenly call that 'spiritual'? Maybe it's simply insecurity and feeling secure when somebody else proves us 'right'?

Sorry Howard if you thought I was pouring cold water on your views by continually asking for evidence but in the world of the web where literally everything is claimed to be possible, discernment is vital.

Continued in next message because of word limit here...

[Isn't is annoying that one can't edit one's own posts?] The link above is RAW at his best - really worth taking the time to listen to him.

    Part 2
For those looking for research and evidence for some of this stuff I can highly recommend a book I read some years ago now called The Field by Lynne McTaggart.
I came across a half hour interview with her today here:

http://www.newrealities.com/index.php/videos-on-human-potential/1503-nr-interview-with-lynne-mctaggart It deals with research into weird quantum stuff and also how group consciousness may affect matter and even, with retro-causality, actually change the past!

Do try to find time to watch it.

This week's meet-up will start by considering what is meant by 'spirituality' ... and we'll let the conversation flow from there :-)
