Spooky folk the world over are looking forward to the 50th Anniversary Doctor Who Special, which screens on November 23.
Super Whovian Nick James is celebrating the event with a pub crawl the week before. He's invited us to join him on this mammoth crawl based on the classic Tom Baker Doctor Who serial, Talons of Weng Chiang.
Says Nick: "The True Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Celebration won't be shown on the 23rd of November, it'll be the weekend before, dotted in the pubs of Wapping and South Bank! Get your arse into gear...
"As (I'm pretty sure) the only classic story that was filmed in the area in which it was set "The Talons Of Weng Chiang" will give us the inspiration for this debaucherous day...
"We meet at the Town Of Ramsgate, next to Old Wapping Steps at 11am and, unless we find a body next to the stairs and a boathook to fish it out with, we move on to St Katherine's Dock. Might skip the sewers, though, unless we're already *really* drunk.
"After that we head to South Bank where we see the TARDIS' landing spot and if you're careful, you might avoid catching an axe in the back of your head. After that, we have all of time and space to explore, or at least the part of it that exists in pubs around London Bridge in November 2011.... See you there!"
Please note this is not an organised tour. It is done by fans of the series and is for the enjoyment of it.
Talons of Weng Chiang was a great episode - very spooky - a bit Jack the Ripperish - with more than a touch of Fu Manchu! You can watch it on Youtube to prepare for the day.
I look forward to seeing you there!
