Don't mean to bring this back up.... what part of Arkansas? I live southeast of little rock now... wanna join you for some next year.. if u wanna hit new roads, I can offer my place to a couple of you :-)

Stephanie: I've only been on one Arkansas trip so my info is limited. But my rough guess would be that we didn't go much further south in Arkansas than Russellville or Hot Springs (both close to Little Rock). We also rode in northern Missouri but probably not any further north than Springfield. Overall it was a large enough area to do 730 miles between Saturday and Sunday.

Stephanie: That should say we rode in southern Missouri not northern Missouri.

Did anyone take any pictures during the trip?
1 · September 3, 2014
I uploaded them on Facebook but not on here. Only took a few but better than nothing. The picture I took of Justin's bike came out the best, in my opinion.
0 · September 3, 2014
Dennis - Thanks for posting some photos.
0 · September 5, 2014
No problem. BTW, I did not intend to cover up your 300. Next time I'll take more pictures.
Dennis - No pictures of the Ninja 300 - no problem. I had it half covered up with my jacket and other gear anyway.
It was a great ride; Just in did a great job finding great roads and we all made it back safely!(Gary--it was great riding with you, I hope you'll join us again often!)
0 · September 2, 2014
Thanks Dick! It was great riding with you guys too. I'll be doing it again as soon as possible and as often as possible (which in reality probably isn't very often - that darn real life getting in the way).
Don't you hate it when work gets in the way of your hobbies?
Dick - I certainly do. I just hope when I do retire that I'm not too old to ride well.
Gary - It was good riding with you. I hope I didn't slow you down too much.
Dennis - Not a chance of that. I was quite happy to follow you during a couple of sessions. It was hard work to just keep you in sight so no worries about slowing me down.
Well said--I like that! I copied that for a future quote!!
Dick - I don't know if it feels that way on a larger bike, but on a small bike it sure does.
I described the trip to a couple of buddies of mine like this - one part race track, one part roller coaster, one part sky diving and one part Olympic bob sledding blended together with steroids, cocaine and gun powder. I think that pretty well sums up the intensity.
Glad you all are safe!! Travel back safely if ur not already back yet.... :-)

Good trip with a couple "minor" exceptions. lol
Great roads and a great ride.
1 · September 1, 2014
Hey Guys: What a trip.! The roads in Arkansas certainly lived up to their pre-event publicity. This was a real highlight of my motorcycling adventures. I can't wait to do it again. Thanks for making me feel welcome!
Unless it's raining pitchforks & axe handles--literally--I'll be riding to Joplin this afternoon.
1 · August 29, 2014
LOL - well put.
0 · August 29, 2014
Bob / Dennis / Dick: My plan at this point is to keep an eye on the weather and push back my departure time from early tomorrow morning until later in the day. I think I'll also drive down and tow the bike. That'll give me the most accurate picture of the weather and also keep me dry on the way down there and back. If the weather on Saturday turns out to be worse than expected, it gives me the options to head home rather than sit in the hotel while waiting it out.
0 · August 28, 2014
I'm going to do the same, if I end up not making it and you (Gary) do, Justin is also going so you would have someone to share a room with.
Bob - If you and I both decide against going down is Justin going to split a room with Dennis and Dick as originally planned?
I'm sure they will...no one will get left out or stuck by themselves. I am looking at trailer hitches for my GTI and bike trailers, this will definitely NOT be an issue for me again. I would be a 100% go if I could trailer down in the rain.
Bob - I bought a used Kendon trailer a couple of years ago. I had previously rented a trailer from U-Haul but in order to do so I had to borrow a truck from a buddy of mine to haul my bike to the track. If I remember correctly my STi wasn't on a list of approved tow vehicles according to U-Haul. I went with a small Kendon single in order to keep the weight as low as possible. Although it's a 1995 model it's been completely reliable so far.
I've found a couple for under 500 on craigslist. A hidden hitch for my GTI is 158 not including installation. So I think this will be high on my agenda over the winter to get done for next year.
Bob - At those prices you almost can't afford to not get one!
I am for sure going. I believe Dick said he has setup lodging.
Justin said he is joining you and Dick for the ride down. Still a Friday decision for me, and it is totally based on the weather along the route to Joplin on Friday, and the weather along the route back to Omaha on Sunday. I could care less about the weather during the actual ride....a little rain here and there might actually be fun and cool us off.
Bob and Gary -- Whatever you decide, keep us posted so we know what your plans are.
Ive been wet before. It's just water.
1 · August 26, 2014
Yeah...but it's looking like it might be a LOT of water. lol
0 · August 26, 2014
Dick-I am good to go, I just hope we don't run into flooded areas.
You only get so wet--then you don't get any wetter all day long.
I wrecked on dry pavement....lol.
0 · August 27, 2014
In all seriousness, as of right now I am planning on going. We all know that forecast can change, hourly!
Hope for the best and plan for the worst.
Getting wet doesn't bother me.....but losing traction in a corner because of water running across the pavement, mud being tracked onto the surface, etc. is a big concern. But then I'm a new rider with not a lot of experience in the rain (e.g. less than 4 hours). So I'll be depending upon you seasoned veterans.
Gary, I've ridden once (other than getting caught in a surprise downpour) in the rain (it was that hills run with Eric and Dick) and it really isn't that bad. I'm okay with riding in the rain during the actual "riding" part of the trip, you get more grip than you think you will and this group will stop if they think it is too dangerous to keep going. Plus, during the actual riding part, we are on highways with slower speed limits and less traffic. The issue for me is what the weather will be like for getting to and from Joplin.
I have zero desire to ride on the interstate in a thunderstorm or even a steady rain. I can't stand long trips on the bike in a straight line and if it is going to take even longer because of weather, then I will pass. I also hate interstate riding in bad weather because truckers could give two shits less about you and blow by at 70-80+ which really sucks. So basically what is going on Friday and late Sunday weather-wise along the route to Joplin and back to Omaha will be the deciding factor for me. I hope no one is disappointed if I or anyone decides not to go because of this.
Sunshine or rain, ride only as fast as you're comfortable.
Dennis...yes, I know. But that is the issue. If a 5.5 hour trip there is going to stretch into 7-8 hours due to weather, I will pass.
If I was trailering down, I wouldn't care.
Saw Justin Tabor today, he is still planning on going too.
Sorry Bob. My post was supposed to be after Gary's, but thunderstorms are definitely a different story than just rain.
No worries Dennis! The only thing I am mad at is the weather. lol

Who's staying with who? I haven't reserved rooms because I am waiting to see if a friend is able to go or not. We will share a room if he is able to make it, if not, is there anyone else open?
0 · July 30, 2014
I'm planning to stay with Dick.
Bob - Has anyone made a decision about where we're likely to be staying on Sunday night? If someone trailers and leaves a trailer in Joplin then Joplin is the obvious choice. But if no one trailers where might we be?
Bob - I haven't made reservations yet. It'll be a couple of weeks before I know for sure if I can get away over the holiday weekend. I'll probably be trying to make reservations at a Hampton Inn, a Fairfield Inn or a La Quinta just to take advantage of reward points.
Gary, if you are able to go, do you want to split a room? Might be one other guy, but I'm sure we could get a cot.
0 · July 31, 2014
Bob - I have an invitation outstanding to a buddy of mine from KC. He blew up his CB550 late last week but he found less damage than he expected to find when he tore it down and might have it all put back together by the end of the month. If he's able to go to Arkansas then he'll end up being my roommate. If he can't go then I'd be open to sharing a room. When I make reservations I'll get a room with two queen beds.
Gary, do you know when you will know? I'd rather not get rooms for just myself for 3 days.
0 · August 5, 2014
Left out of the last post: Matt isn't sure if he is going yet so that's why my room plans are up in the air.
Bob - I was going to give my buddy in KC (also Bob) until 8/15 to decide if he'd be able to make the trip.
Sounds good, I know it will all get figured out one way or another. :) I am now looking at a conflict on the last day, not sure if I will have to cut out early or not. If it's not one thing it's another!!
0 · August 6, 2014
Bob - I sent another email to my buddy letting him know that I need an answer by the end of this weekend. I'm going to make my reservations this weekend probably at a Fairfield Inn, Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn in order to generate some activity on my frequent guest accounts. If he doesn't respond or can't go you're welcome to split a room with me.
0 · August 13, 2014
Cool, my friend isn't sure and I asked Justin if he would stay if your friend does make it and mine doesn't. I also reserved rooms at Days Inn in Joplin on Friday and Sunday, and Quality Inn on Saturday in Russellville just in case. I think we have all our bases covered, I can cancel mine up to the day before the reservation without being charged. I might still have to cut out early and only ride a half day on Sunday, then head back to Omaha. Ill know a lot more about that in the next week or so.
Bob - I haven't heard anything back from my buddy Bob in KC. So I'm going to assume he's unable to join us in Arkansas for one reason or another.
With that said, I think we can finalize our hotel planning for the trip. I'm up for sharing a room provided it's a non-smoking room.
You said you booked a room for Friday night in Joplin (Days Inn), Saturday night in Russellville (Quality Inn), and Sunday night in Joplin (Days Inn). (cont)
0 · August 18, 2014
In Joplin I was looking at the La Quinta - $79 per night plus tax. 3-stars and 4.0 out of 5 on Expedia.com. Also Hilton Garden Inn - $89 per night plus tax. 3-stars and 4.4 out of 5. Both have free cancellations through 8/28/14 and both are within two to four blocks of the Days Inn.
If you guys have stayed at the Days Inn before and it's clean and secure, I'm okay with simply staying there. However, if it's tending towards the run-down, worn side of things I'd rather spend a few extra dollars and have something a little nicer. (I've stayed in enough bad hotels to last a lifetime.)
In Russellville I was looking at the Days Inn at $83 (4.5. out of 5), the Comfort Inn at $100 (4.3 out of 5), or the Hampton Inn at $109 (4.6 out of 5). But if you guys have stayed at the Quality Inn (3.7 out of 5) in Russellville and found it to be clean, I'm okay with that.
Are you thinking you'll head back towards Joplin on Sunday so you have a shorter ride home on Monday? Or are you thinking you'll simply ride home on Sunday? I think Dick was talking about staying in Mountain Home Sunday night. That would mean Monday would be an almost 500 mile trip. Having never done 500 miles in a motorcycle I can't tell how grueling that might be on a Ninja 300. But I'll probably err on the side of caution and try to have a little shorter day than that by heading back towards Joplin.
I still am not sure about whether or not I can ride the whole day Sunday, I am planning on staying in Joplin on Sunday night if I do though. I think that's what everyone else is going to do too. Dick, can you confirm you are going to stay in Joplin on Sunday? As for hotels, it doesn't matter to me, I can also cancel my reservations without penalty so whatever works. No smoking here.
Bob - Have you determined if you're returning to Omaha on Sunday or Monday?
0 · August 25, 2014
Yep, I have to head back on Sunday, I was planning on riding about a half day Sunday then break off and take a more direct route towards home. I figured since we are already down south in Russelleville, we will be working our way back northwest anyways.
I think we are all set for next weekend. I believe Justin was interested in riding down with Dick and Dennis, sounds like Gary will be leaving early and meeting everyone in Joplin. I am leaving early too and will meet everyone in Joplin. Gary, when you get a chance will you ship me your phone number so I can get a hold of you in Joplin Friday night? Should be a good weekend of riding!
0 · August 22, 2014
I'm fine staying in Joplin again on Sunday
I will know this weekend if I have to cut out early Sunday or not. Gary, we should probably keep your hotel reservation for Sunday and I will cancel mine now just in case I do have to make it a half day of riding on Sunday before I head back to Omaha.
0 · August 19, 2014
Bob - I booked rooms for Friday and Sunday evening at the Hilton Garden Inn in Joplin. It's about a half mile away from the Days Inn where Dick and Dennis are staying. The AAA rate was $89 plus tax per night which comes out to $99.95.
Bob - I booked a room for Saturday evening at the Comfort Inn in Russellville. It's 1/4 mile from the Quality Inn where Dick and Dennis are staying. The AAA rate was $99.70 plus tax per night which comes out to $[masked]
What time are you leaving Friday? Are you driving/following Dennis and Dick or are you leaving earlier?
Bob - I'm still trying to sort all that out. The first thing I need to figure out is whether I'm going to ride or tow the Ninja to Joplin. I can see advantages to both. Regardless of whether I ride or tow I'll probably leave Omaha early in the day on Friday in order to stop in KC to see my buddy.
I need to do some bike prep and also mount all the luggage to my bike. I hope to get that done this weekend. With this being the first time I've done this I'm sure it'll take me awhile.
Okay, I will cancel my reservations on all 3 days. It's looking like I will only be able to make a half day riding Sunday and then have to head back, so I won't be staying on Sunday night.
0 · August 20, 2014
Ran into Justin Tabor yesterday, he said he is coming too.
0 · August 21, 2014
Great news--haven't ridden w. Justin since March!
Dennis & I are rooming together; I think Justin may join us & crash on the floor. If no one trailers--maybe stay at Mountain Home Sunday--or closer if everyone wants a shorter day on Monday.
Dick - What time do you guys typically leave the hotel in the morning and start riding? How late do you typically each day?
No set times--probably breakfast at 7:30, rolling by 8-8:30, stop late afternoon. We've occasionally ridden into early evening, but that's kind of rare. Plan on 3-400 miles on Sat & Sun.
Dick, have we decided on a Sunday night location? Are we going to try and make it back to Joplin?
0 · August 4, 2014
I think labor day weekend is going to work, not sure about riding down or using a trailer yet. Has anyone checked the hotel availability yet?
0 · July 20, 2014
Bob--I just reserved a room at the Quality Inn in Joplin--on Arizona Ave--for Friday night. Looked like they had more rooms available, plus I think there are really quite a few rooms in Joplin. QUESTION: where does everyone want to stay on Saturday--Eureka Springs, Russellville, ???
0 · July 21, 2014
Dick - I'm completely flexible on locations. I have an invitation outstanding to my friend in KC. If he comes he'll be riding an older CB550. If that's the case he and I will be riding at a pretty leisurely pace and will just plan on meeting up with you guys in the evenings in order to not slow you down during the day.
Eureka Springs was limited in decent hotel options last year, what's Russellville options like?
0 · July 22, 2014
Russellville looks pretty good. I don't believe I've been there.
I think Russellville will have several choices--I'll check tonight--
New places are always cool to stay, plus Russellville looks a little bigger than Eureka Springs.
0 · July 23, 2014
Russellville has a bike shop also--Honda, Suzuki I think--in case anyone needs service/tires that day, we'll all be headed in the same direction.
Dick - My buddy's CB550 just blew up and is down for the count. So I don't have to worry about trying to accommodate him on this trip and will be able to ride with you guys. I'm still trying to figure out whether it makes sense to tow the bike to Joplin or just ride it down there.
0 · July 25, 2014
Gary...do you have more room for another bike? I'm not sure if my friend is going yet who has a trailer, I might be interested in splitting costs with you to trailer my bike to Joplin.
0 · July 26, 2014
Bob - All I have is a Kendon Single so no room for a second bike.
Bob - On one hand I'm interested in trailering my bike down to Arkansas in order to save wear and tear on the bike, the tires and my body. But on the other hand, I'm not crazy about leaving my car and trailer unattended for a couple of days.
Gary, we left the truck at the hotel in Springfield Mo last year, we stayed there Thursday night and stayed at the same place on Saturday night (we went back home on Sunday morning). The manager said it was okay and nothing bad happened. Since we are meeting in Joplin, we could make reservations at the same place we are staying on Friday night for Sunday night too. I think it will be okay at a reputable hotel, but obviously it is up to you since it is your equipment.
Hah...I just saw your comment about room for one bike. No worries!
Bob - My tow vehicle is an STi with a big hood scoop and rear wing. Cars like that can be a magnet for trouble.
I made a reservation--one room--at the Quality Inn in Russellville for Saturday 8/30. I think there are probably PLENTY of options in Russellville.
So, Joplin Friday, Russellville Saturday, have we decided where on Sunday? Preferably as close to home as possible, getting back early Monday would be nice.
Although, if a couple of us trailer down, I suppose we will have to stay Sunday night the same place we stay Friday night. lol
Dennis & I are thinking Friday 8/29 in Joplin; Saturday 8/30 in E. Springs (or Harrison, Mountain Home, etc.)-Maybe 8/21 in Theodosia MO and then home on 9/1. Who's in?
Yep, that'll work. Is a route in the works or do you have one in mind?
Dick - Are you thinking of leaving after work on Friday or earlier in the day? Are you riding down or is somebody towing?
Probably after work Friday--that way no one has to use a vacation day if they don't want to. Probably get us in to Joplin by 11:00 or so. I'll ride, for sure--don't know if anyone will be trailering or not.
Dick - Do you guys take I-29 down to Joplin? Highway 73-75? Or some other route?
Usually I 29
Dick - I'd probably take Friday off and start the ride early in the day on the Ninja 300. I'd take the slow route down Highway 73/75 to Topeka and then head over to KC to visit a buddy of mine. I'd leave KC later in the afternoon and head to Joplin. I'd meet you guys in Joplin.
Dick - How much gear do you take for a weekend on the bike? Do you just bungee a bag to the tail of the bike? (Obviously I don't have any experience with overnight trips on a bike.)
I'll take a tank bag and a tail pack. You'll probably want rain gear--a pair of jeans & sneakers so you can change out of your riding gear-- t-shirts, underwear etc. Don't forget any prescription drugs you take, cell phone charger, tool kit if you have one.
Dick - I've got some soft saddlebags for the Ninja 300. I'll just have to get those mounted. Those plus a tail bag should go a long ways towards my storage requirements.
I'm out. Planning on hitting the BS rally there Sept. 5-7. Have fun and ride safe, see some of you down there at the rally.
0 · July 19, 2014
Labor Day weekend might work for me and I'd be interested in doing the Arkansas trip. I'd also be interested in being part of the slower "B" group.
As you firm up details will you post dates, hotels, etc.?
Getting hotels on Labor Day weekend might be a challenge.
0 · July 18, 2014
Remember Bull Shoals rally is on Sept 5/6 which means we would be leaving either on the 3rd or 4th. Just saying you might get a little beat up coming back on the 1st and leaving again on the 3rd.
hmm--could do Labor Day without even taking a vacation day...down Friday night, back on Monday---
0 · July 17, 2014
That sounds pretty good to me.
Okay...looking at either the weekend of August 16th, or the weekend of 30th (which is labor day weekend). Thoughts?
Looking like it might have to be in August.....hopefully it isn't too hot. Maybe start kicking around some August dates that people are open.
0 · July 9, 2014
So...any more progress on this?
0 · June 23, 2014
Not yet, talking to a couple people who are trying to nail down open dates. Hopefully will know soon.
0 · June 24, 2014
3 skilled riders went down last year in Arkansas, the technical difficulty is greater than the Loess hills ride by a long shot. This will be a fast group, especially if the ride is only a day and a half instead of 2 full days, which it is looking more likely.
0 · June 17, 2014
A day and a half?
0 · June 18, 2014
Justin T. was saying maybe leave Friday morning, ride half a day Friday on the good roads, then all day Saturday, come back Sunday.
0 · June 19, 2014
Keep in mind you'll want new or close to new rubber - we'll likely average around 300 miles a day and the roads are tight and technical with rough chipseal so you'll have accelerated wear and dealers are few and far between. Also please write/print your information (name, dob, emergency contact, health and auto insurance info, etc.) and keep it on you in case of a wreck.
1 · June 17, 2014
10th-13th or 24th-27th are all I've got open. Either way, if you need them I've still got the routes we did last year on Google.
0 · June 12, 2014
I think I could make 24th-27th work.
Im open to both. But i think if my 600gsxr is ready ill be taking that. :-)
Bob - I can't make it in July due to work commitments. But I'd be interested in an August or September trip (once again depending upon work commitments).
0 · June 11, 2014
Sorry, my description was kind of confusing...by 2 day ride I meant full days of riding, using Thursday night to get there and Sunday morning to get home. If people can only do 1 day of riding, that's okay too.
