ROS - The Robot Operating System is a framework of software tools and libraries for operating robots of all kinds, from mobile robots to arms, from custom built to commercial, it even runs in space! It has been gaining significant use in research and is now being adopted for industrial applications as well.
The ROS Edmonton users group is here to promote robotics in Edmonton, to exchange knowledge and expertise through teaching and workshops and create connections between academics, industry and hobbyists. All levels of interest and experience are welcome.
This month: Come out for a night of fun and autonomy! Hear from the legendary Sean Scheideman, MSc. Computing Science student, speak about the implementation of Darknet's YOLO (You Only Look Once) detector. The University of Alberta's very own Autonomous Robotic Vehicle Project (ARVP) used it at their annual international competition, RoboSub, and had one of the best machine learning based approaches to computer vision. You will even have the chance to meet ARVP's world famous AURI in person!
