Re: [Kayakstaugustine] What's Important to you?

Hello, All,

In answer to Greg's mailing to us, concerning "What's Important to You?": I have been paddling for more than 15 years, mostly with a Paddle Club in Northwestern CT.  Paddling has been a pleasure everywhere I go.  It is my hobby, exercise, and social life.  I feel that we all partake and participate on the Waterways and Federal, State and local Parks, and in return we can show our appreciations through giving of our services (volunteering) to help maintain our Parks and Waterways in anyway needed.

I look forward to seeing you all this winter.

Folks, I'm going to say this as simple as I know how. We recently had two people that neglected to pay for the shuttle that I provided, knowing full well when they came to the meet up what to expect. On our last paddle to Bulow, after talking to the ranger there, seems someone only put $2.00 in the iron ranger (honor system) that called for $4.00. (this is amazing to me?)This may not have been any of us, however, I want to bring this to your attention. I have brought awareness and many people to this wonderful sport and got them off the couch and out into nature with this group. The group has brought many folks together and no doubt touched many lives. Our beautiful state park rely on the minimal entrance fees and volunteers, to keep them open for all of us to enjoy. It's not and never has been the money for me. After my bought with cancer, being out in nature was an integrate part of my healing. I decided to do something to make a difference, something to help others release and become aware of the power of the natural that surrounds us everyday. I have spent countless hours on the computer working to make this site easy, interesting and most of all easy to find on Google. More countless hours driving and checking out places, conditions, research etc. We are a proud Corporate sponsor of Anastasia State Park and soon to be of Washington Oaks and Silver Springs. Bringing people to these parks and donating $ is our way of giving back. The little bit of money that I make off the annual dues, rentals, shuttles and carpools helps to maintain and keep alive the natural beauty of what we all enjoy. So the next time you think of how you can get around or save money by not paying to enter the park or shuttling yourself or renting somewhere else, or think that some how, I am ripping you off and charging to much and just making tons of money, think about if this group and/or our parks are important enough for you to keep around?
