Getting a little worried, were you?
Welcome to 2013, and another year of great food with West County Dining Out!
Considering that Italian is one of the most popular, not to mention one of the most common, types of ethnic food around - especially here in St Louis - I think it's amazing we've gone since last April without having an Italian dinner! I've always said there are as many great Italian restaurants here in West County as anywhere else in St Louis (including the Hill), and ours are some of the best of all of them. And lo, we have a new eatery to continue to prove my point.
Of course, the name Trattoria Marcella is well-known to anyone who's lived in St Louis for any amount of time, as one of the best Italian restaurants in the region. So it's no surprise that when the "Marcella" family decided to open a new restaurant here in the west, Mia Sorella, that it would also be outstanding. But I had to check for myself, and was entirely pleased. I actually checked a couple months ago, but having just opened, they asked me to wait until the new year to bring in a group. So, it's time!
Cuisine - This is what you'd call "traditional Italian", which is to say it's not focused on any specific region of the country (northern, Sicilian, Tuscan, etc.) but rather on providing a cross-section of the cuisine as a whole. Which is good, because while the menu isn't huge, it's got a little of just about everything! From Neopolitan-style pizza (of which they have quite a selection), to pasta... again, a great variety with gnocchi, fusilli, canneloni, papperdelle, tagliatelle, angel hair, maccheroni, and even, yes, spaghetti, in styles including Bolognese, al Forno, Carbonara, Puttanesca, Brodo, cream, and others, to their Secondi (entrees)... which include beef, chicken, and seafood - and in some very creative arrangements (herb crusted scampi, for example, or a truly monumental tenderloin with ciabatta breadcrumbs, prosciutto, mozzarella, mushrooms, and garlic-lemon sauce)... you're sure to find something that will appeal, and from my experience, it will be utterly fantastic!
Cost - This is where Mia Sorella really shines. Italian food can sometimes get expensive at the better restaurants, but here the pizzas are $13, the pastas are $12-$17, and the entrees are $14-$19. For Italian this good, with the pedigree this restaurant has... nothing over $20 is nothing short of amazing!
Other Info - Mia Sorella is located on Clayton Rd, in a brand new center on the southwest corner of the intersection with Henry Ave. Parking is right out front. If the lot fills up, there are a few hidden spots if you go to the right of the building, or use the bank lot next door to the left.
I'm looking forward to seeing lots of my West County foodies at our first dinner of 2013 at Mia Sorella on Tuesday the 29th! And sorry for the short notice, but I know that won't stop anyone!
