International Folk Dancing with IFDA
Join IFDA for International Folk Dancing @ University United Methodist Church Address: 6901 Washington Ave. St. Louis, MO 63130 Parking on Trinity and Washington Saturdays: 7:30pm until 10:45pm We teach dances every week! IFDA’s weekly International Folk Dances are attended by people, most of whom are not members of Meetup.com. Since you are reading this, you are probably looking to try something different and indeed we are. We enjoy doing dances from many countries and ethnic groups from all over the world. The music ranges across traditional folk styles, to contemporary styles, through a fusion of folk and contemporary music. The dances are fun and exciting as the dance rhythms are a blend of the common forms (2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8) and of the unique forms (5/16, 11/16, 7/8, 7/16), sometimes called crooked-music because of the odd numbers of beats. You won't need a partner as many of the dances are danced in circles and semi-circles that do not require partners. We also do a some line dances, some partner dances and some set dances that require groups of couples. You'll meet people from a wide range of backgrounds and you'll have a great time. It takes some dancers a little time to get used to the different types of dances and music, so don't expect to learn everything on your first night - there is a lot to be learned, and in the end it's worth the effort. No formal attire needed; just wear comfortable clothes and shoes. We look forward to dancing with you! What we're about

Welcome to the International Folk Dance Association of University City, or IFDA. Incorporated in 1964, the IFDA has been serving the greater St. Louis area for over 45 years as a non-profit organization dedicated to the teaching and enjoyment of folk dances and to the sharing of knowledge and appreciation of folk cultures from around the world. We do this in many ways such as weekly dances and instruction, dance workshops and parties, concerts, and culture sessions. The IFDA and its activities are open to anyone interested in international folk dancing or folklore.

IFDA is a multi-ethnic, multi-generational community of people who enjoy the dances, music, cuisines and cultures of many countries and ethnic groups from around the world. As our motto states, we regard "Dancing As A Second Language". Ethnic Folk Dance a great social mixer and aerobic workout. Using the media of ethnic dance and ethnic music, we provide participants with powerful, memorable and enriching experiences and connections that reach far beyond the scope of many other social dance forms and contribute to the creativity, cultural awareness, social and cultural, physical, and personal and professional development of the community.

This group is for lovers of ethnic dance and ethnic music.
