I'd love to come but I unfortunately have an other meeting in the city this night.

Worry not! I'm sure we'll have more meetings. At least one person has asked for a dinner-time event next time (and at S.F.). Sound like a fun alternative for the future.
Can't make it tonight but let's plan something in SF soon -- I can help organize since I live in the city. G

Likewise! +1 to a future meetup in the city!

Giles since I know you, I'm appointing you co-organizer in charge of the San Francisco events. If you change your mind or if someone else wants to help, let me know.

Thanks Martin! Just let me know what's your thinking about the frequency of the events or if you had any date in mind and I'll organize something in the city :)
I was thinking about once every two months. More often if more than 10-15 people show up. Looks like we could try a meetup in San Francisco within 3-4 weeks if you're up for it.
So, where do we meet?

Rose and Crown
I created a "Discussion" here but it is not clear to me people get any notification about it, so here' it is: http://www.meetup.com/sv-ocaml/messages/boards/thread/41927122 . I'm still new to meetup.com so let me know if this is a bit spamy.

Meetup.com let me know that the group has been automatically announced to members of other groups (unfortunately without specifying which groups nor which individuals... ah, machine intelligence...).
Hi folks, not sure if you're interesting in growing the group but if you are, it may be worth posting brief announcements in other groups. e.g I'm sure some members of the SF FP group would be like to find out about this and there are probably others.

sounds good, feel free to share a link to the group there, I'm also looking for places to share this.
Meetup.com is supposed to advertise the group for us two days after its creation. We should get an update today.
But otherwise sure, please let non-meetup.com groups know about us.
I can post on Scala Bay
Bars in Palo Alto do get crowded, but I think we'll be OK at 6:30 on a Wednesday. I suggest trying Gordon Biersch (might be able to reserve a quieter table), and if that doesn't work, we can easily walk to another restaurant or bar. Mountain View would work too.

Pubs probably will generally be crowded anywhere? There's Bier Garten in Mountain View that might have more room for people, if it must be a beer thing. I think Tied House sucks, at least food wise.
But this is the kind of debate that can go on for ever. Maybe just going to Rose & Crown this time is a fine way to at least get things started at all!

I like the food at tied house. Beer Garden is not bad at all either.
FYI, Rose & Crown is a decent place, but it's usually very busy and crowded place to be.
What alternative do you recommend?
We can try Gordon Biersch.
My recollection from ages past is that Gordon Biersch is really loud.

This is group is open to all levels of experience and interest for the OCaml programming language. We also welcome anyone interested in Reason, a new interface to OCaml with a more familiar syntax.
We try to meet every 2-3 weeks at MixRank for talks and Edgar hosts free office hours to help you with any OCaml related problem you have, also at MixRank.
