What we're about

Want to get away from your desk and go out and enjoy nature? New to the area and want meet other young people, while visiting beautiful places? One of the ironies of Silicon Valley is that in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, once known as "Valley of Heart's Delight", people spend most of their time indoors. Let's change that. While centered on Silicon Valley, we will do hikes throughout the Bay Area, as well as overnight trips in more distant parts of California. This group will primarily be about hiking, camping and backpacking, but may expand to other activities like kayaking and cycling. All skill and fitness levels are welcome. Couples and Singles welcome. Must be ages 21 – 39 at time of joining.

Elephant Seal Guided Walk

Año Nuevo State Park

Valentine's day is coming up, and you know what that means: elephant seal mating season! Come to Año Nuevo to see bull elephant seals spare for mates, cows giving birth, and pups exploring their brave new world. This is a three mile, two and a half hour long guided tour by a state park volunteer. This is the morning of Super Bowl Sunday, so come see the real heavyweights push each other around before the game. Tickets are $12.44 ($11 for the actual ticket $1.44 Meetup processing fees). Since parking at the park is $10, carpooling is advised. For more information see: http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=523 http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/523/files/guided_walk_information_brochure_12-13.pdf . Directions: [masked],[masked] (Getting directions from the app will take you to the right place.) Año Nuevo State Park is located on State Route 1, (on the ocean side, obviously) approximately 20 miles north of Santa Cruz and 35 miles south of Half Moon Bay. When you pull into the entrance, you will have to pay $10 for parking, and the guy will ask you if you already have tickets. Say, "yes", then after parking, meet me on the west side of the visitor center building (see diagram above), and I will hand you your ticket. Please note that we have a no refund policy, so make sure you are able to attend before paying. Disclaimer (http://evanhoke.org/SVOAEventDisclaimer.pdf) - I will bring a copy to sign.
