• Sydney Java Meetup Workshop! Java + Containers on Amazon Web Services (AWS)

    Sydney Java Meetup #7 This month we will do a hands-on workshop - building a Docker based Java application on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This will be a non-threatening and encouraging event - all levels of experience welcome. We’ll do some coding together and hopefully all learn something along the way. Places are extremely limited for this event, as we’re setting up to code with tables - please RSVP with care and update your RSVP if you can’t make it. Here’s what you’ll need: - A laptop with: - Docker - Java SE JDK 8 - Maven 3.5+ (http://maven.apache.org/download.cgi) - IntelliJ (https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download) * workshop demos done in IntelliJ - Enthusiasm! - Optional: Your own AWS account to try deploying your app to. If you don't have this you can follow along with someone else or we'll do it together on a shared screen. 6pm - Networking/Drinks/Food 6:30pm - Event Intro and Job Shouts 6:35pm - Quick Intro to Docker and AWS container options 7:00pm - Hands on Workshop Bring your laptops - we’re getting hands on! We’ll build a Java app running in a Docker container, live-coding style on the screen and those who’d like to participate can follow along on their laptops.
