Whale Watching Day: La Perouse to Coogee Beach: 17km Medium
Let's spend the day hunting for Humpback whales! What more fun could we have!
We meet at La Perouse bus stop, opposite Cann Park, by 9:30AM and head off through the wonderful Botany Bay National Park and out to the ocean from where, hopefully, migrating humpback whales will appear for us to marvel at.
We take a quick morning tea and bathroom break at Malabar, before crossing Malabar Headland and heading into Maroubra Beach for another toilet break, and lunch. MEMBERS CAN PURCHASE FOOD AT LOCAL SHOPS OR BRING A PACKED LUNCH.
From Maroubra, its 5km of beautiful ocean front, and hopefully more whales, through to Coogee Beach where we connect with regular bus services back to the CBD, etc.
Distance: 17KM
Type of Walk: Great adventure through world class national parks and ocean fronts and, hopefully, lots of lovely whales! NOT TO BE MISSED!!
Difficulty: Medium, with get-out points. No big hills.
Walking Pace: We will maintain a steady pace all day and average 4.5 km per hour. We must finish by 5:00PM.
Meeting Place and Transport: Members MAKE THEIR OWN ARRANGEMENTS BUT PLEASE BE AT LA PEROUSE BY NO LATER THAN 9:30AM.
What to bring: Good walking shoes; 1.5 litres of water, refill along the way; hydrolytes; morning tea; lunch snack(s); cap, light rain jacket depending on conditions. THERE IS TASTY FOOD AVAILABLE AT OUR LUNCH BREAK, Maroubra Beach, but it will be busy, so I advise bringing your own food.
Suggested Donation: $10
