This event will require a five dollar donation from members of Sydney Atheists. Non-members will be required to pay $10. Of course it is easy to become a Sydney Atheists Meetup member, just join on our website. We are not for profit and 100% of funds go to operating the group, Atheist education and causes. Also, the hotel is doing us a very good deal for the space and providing very affordable food and drink.
Sydney Atheists are honoured to present two amazing scientists each giving talks to satisfy our hunger to know more about science and the universe:
Wade Fairclough "The beauty of Science -how science and technology improved our lives"
About Wade Fairclough: Wade dedicates much of his time to teaching science professionally. More generally he discusses and promotes the wacky and wonderful world of science.
Professor Geraint Lewis "The secret lives of Galaxies - The Milky Way is a cannibal"
The Universe is filled with a rich structure; planets, stars and galaxies. But where did all of this structure come from? In this talk we’ll take a look at the evolution of structure in the Universe, from its birth in the Big Bang to now, seeing how galaxies have grown over time. But in our search for our origin reveals some uncomfortable truths about our own Milky Way, showing it to be a voracious cannibal. These secrets are also showing that we don’t know as much about the Universe as we suppose, and we might need to rethink the actual nature of the Cosmos.
About Professor Geraint Lewis: Geraint is Professor of Astrophysics and an Australian Research Council Future Fellow Sydney Institute for Astronomy. He is also an Associate Head for Research in the School of Physics at Sydney University
Please note that the dinner and talks will both be at the one venue, First Floor Strattons Hotel, 249 Castlereagh Street Sydney.
Dinner will be available from 6.00pm whilst the talks will begin at 7.00pm.
You will be able to eat before or during the talks. We will also have a 15 minute intermission. This venue affords us much in the way of social possibilities as well as the talks. Please note that catering will not be available after 8.30pm. Meals are available from $10.00.
Location: 249 Castlereagh St, Sydney NSW (http://strattonshotel.com.au/Contact)

Special guests in the past have been members of the meetup, who spoke on a topic of their choice, or experts from outside, speaking on a topic of their expertise. If you wish to speak, or know somebody who would like to speak to us, please contact Steve[masked] 211. Slots are either 1 hour or part there of to make up the hour.
We also attempt to record our talks and put them up on our youtube channel (http://youtube.com/sydneyatheists) pending time for editing and final speakers' approval.
