On Saturday 2/27 Ana Sierra will be the featured chef at The Mandolin Cafe in Tacoma. Come experience an evening of Cuban delights, including "puerco marinado" (marinated pork) "moros y cristianos" (black beans and rice), "tostones" (fried plantains), "yuca con mojo criollo" (Cassava with a yummy sauce), Mama Ana's special "ensalada" (salad), flan and "arroz con leche" (a vegan friendly rice pudding made with leche de coco).

In addition to this wonderful menu, music will be provided by el Trio Sin Embargo and we will also be lauded by the City of Tacoma Poet Laureate, Antonio Edwards, an original of Nuyorican extraction! The cost for the meal is $20 per person and $10 for children under 12 years of age.

Reservations are required. T-Town Mixers may contact The Mandolin for reservations by calling 253-761-3482 or email the cafe at For those of you who have not yet been to the The Mandolin Cafe. it is located at 3923 South 12th Street, Tacoma, WA 98405 and you may go to for directions.

It would be great fun to have a table of T-Town Mixers at this event!

TRIVIA: Tacoma has a sister city in Cuba: Cienfuegos or the Pearl of the South. The city was settled by French immigrants from Bordeaux and Louisiana, led by Don Louis D'Clouet, on April 22 1819 and by local accounts the French played a significant role in the history of Cienfuegos. It is a truly beautiful city with many well preserved historical buildings and a charming plaza. In fact, UNESCO declared Cienfuegos a World Heritage site. One of Cuba's legendary singers, Beny More, was from Cienfuegos. BTW if you plan on traveling there, another World Heritage site is within an hour's drive, Trinidad, the oldest European established city in the Western Hemisphere.
