This Meetup is from 6 pm till 9pm.
The most important thing to know about Art Journaling is that it is for everyone! And it is what you want it to be for you, no special skills required, you don’t have to know how to draw or paint or anything. You can be a beginner, a seasoned artist or anything in between. There are no rules to follow, no set way of creating a journal.
A typical Art Journaling meetup consists of the following…
Chat and welcome new members
The session leader shares a video and/or new technique/supplies. If there are new members attending we will do a quick overview of supplies and examples and a demo for prepping and creating a background.
For the remainder of the meetup everyone continues on working on what we have learned or something of their choice. As always, we chat and enjoy each other's company while creating! At the end of the evening we spend a few minutes appreciating each other's work.
Resource books/magazines are always available for inspiration.
If this is your first time attending, you can bring supplies or just bring yourself. We will have items available for you to try in order for you to see if this meetup is for you.
Upcoming topics for 2016 (we will generally follow the order they appear in the list however more may be added)
1. Collage self portrait or pet portrait - created from a pixilated print out of your image
2. Altered books
3. Creating your own journal, learn a simple bookbinding technique.
4. Creating backgrounds using a Gelli Arts™ printing plate. We'll watch a video and try using it ourselves.
5. Making our own stamps, stencils, masks . . .
Not sure where to start? Here are just a few ideas:
Vision Journal - cut & paste images of what you want to bring into your life, you can add your own text or add text from magazines, etc.
Travel Journal - document your adventures, use items from trips for collage, embellish with images that symbolize your trips or where you want to visit, document your vacation, etc. Lots of possibilities here!
Watercolor and pen - Want to keep your supplies at a minimum? Grab a watercolor journal, some watercolor pencils and a waterbrush, a waterproof black marker, and start a simple watercolor journal.
Lettering Journal - just love to practice different letter styles? Give each letter of the alphabet its own page and go to town. Great for doodling, coloring, playing with letters.
Smash Book - Still not sure where to start? A Smash book is a great way to go, it already is a journal with pretty papers, some lined, some patterned, some text, comes with a dual purpose pen(glue and ink). These can be found at Michaels, Target, Artco, and other art/craft stores.
The Hand Me Down journal: What do you want to tell your kids/grandkids, what do you want them to know or remember. Capture this in a journal using quotes, images, collage, etc.
The Journaler’s journal - for those who love to write, lots of text as well as art, collage.
Altered Books - Choose a book, preferably one with sewn signatures, and create a journal using some of the test, cutting windows, adding images . . .
There is no end to the possibilities for journal making . get started on one today!
