Friday, February 14th, join us at The Tech Academy's downtown campus for food, drinks, and a tech talk with Chris Ling, Data Engineer at Flux!
Whiteboarding exercises, algorithms, data structures, logic puzzles, coding projects, and technical terminology, oh my! These are daunting challenges to face for new engineers looking for their first job in tech, whether you took a traditional or non-traditional path to software. It can be especially frustrating when many in our industry also acknowledge that these styles of interviews don't best represent the day-to-day responsibilities of software engineers.
This talk explores key methods and strategies to help individuals better prepare for their transition to their first software job, with a focus on:
- Building professional development skills applicable to all industries;
- Relating your pre-software background to analogous experiences in the software industry;
- Countering the notion of the "academic gap" with computer science majors by mastery of your projects from bootcamp;
- Appropriately prioritizing and preparing for the necessary evils of whiteboarding without falling prey to doubts and imposter syndrome;
