Changify Shoreditch (Urban Design Hackathon - Free event!)

I'm a volunteer for a very interesting design hack event taking place next weekend (Fri Jan 25th - Sat Jan 26th) on the subject of Urban Design/Design for Social Change. As the Social Innovation Camp's motto is to match geeks with those at the sharp end of social change, I thought why not share this exciting opportunity with the rest of the group to consider: http://changifyshoreditch2.eventbrite.co.uk/

"Changify" is a new crowdfunding platform for local community-led change projects to seek backing from brands, local businesses and other supporters being launched early in 2013. Over the evening of Fri 18th Jan and daytime Sat 19th January, we're going to "Changify Shoreditch" together, with an exciting blend of local exploration, reporting and creative problem solving. This particular event will focus on the themes of the Environment, Quality of Living, Business, and Transport.

How?
1) On Friday... participants turn roving urban reporters - exploring past, present and future Shoreditch on a tour hosted by city guides Peter Berthoud and Alternative London. Participants are encouraged to "Snap", "tweet" and "rate" issues and inspirations they notice en route. The Tour of Shoreditch is followed by two short talks from local community & business representatives, including Tower Hamlets Councillor Joshua Peck and Jack Skillen, Hackney resident & Head of Projects (Streets) at Living Streets.
2) On Saturday... participants review their findings to build a local picture of what should be changify'd and how local busineses and brands (in and around Shoreditch) can help. Participants have the option of teaming-up to hone their ideas, and pitch their solutions, using video or other storytelling methods. Feedback on all demonstrated project ideas will be given, from a panel of local community and creative experts.

But how does the Changifying happen..?
The solutions become micro-projects, illustrated by your descriptions, photos, stories and videos. Then the projects go forward to be posted and find backing on the Changify hub from the local community, brands and other supporters.

Where?
In Rockwell House Studio (Fri) [Location: Rockwell House, 10-14 Hewett Street, London EC2A 3NN], the Tea Building (Sat) [Location: 56 Shoreditch High Street, London, E1 6PQ] and around the streets of Shoreditch and Brick Lane, a historic and dynamic part of east London.

Who?
The event is open to anyone with a passion for making a difference. Come along, get creative and share your skills. We'll also have design, community and media experts on hand to give feedback. What counts is curiosity and a desire to Changify the neighbourhood! Twitter hashtag: if you are tweeting about Changify Shoreditch 2 before, during or after the event please use #changify
