Position Summary

The Vice President of Technology Operations leads a team of managers and engineers that designs, delivers, and operates the networking and computing infrastructure supporting Millennial Media’s diverse business. Their leadership sets the tone with their team, delivering the competing goals of maintaining a secure, reliable, and scalable technology operation while enabling rapid change and deployment of new capabilities to grow our business.

The VP is responsible for a systems engineering team that works in close concert with the software engineering teams to design and deploy an expanding suite of Millennial Media products. They are also responsible for a team of systems and network administrators that designs and implements our production infrastructure as well as our corporate IT backbone. Additionally, they are charged with leading a team of technical support analysts who are growing to support a global 24x7 business user base that is both technically savvy and demanding.

In addition to these tactical responsibilities, the VP of Operations Engineering will be a strategic partner to our business, serving as both a conduit for information about our operation as well as setting the right course for growing our enterprise capabilities. Thus, they will be an excellent communicator and organizer, ensuring that multiple, competing priorities are managed and communicated to both their team and their peers. She/He will maintain close relationships with executive management team members, providing strategic guidance on our capabilities and limitations. The VP will own managing the financial implications of their decisions, and communicating these needs with the comptroller and other executive team members while forming and managing the overall infrastructure budget.

Most importantly, the VP will hire, mentor and lead the best and brightest resources, continuing to establish Millennial Media as a world-class technology operation. They will educate and inspire their team members to be a part of a progressive, innovative, and positive culture, acting as enablers to their engineering and business partners to continue delivering results as a successful public company. The successful candidate will be a leader of leaders, as they guide and mentor managers within their team to deliver against aggressive goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

Manage a team of engineers, analysts, and managers to design, maintain, and improve Millennial Media’s technology infrastructure
Define and drive strategic technology initiatives for systems and networking infrastructure
Demonstrate technical leadership including mentoring less experienced engineers and managers
Develop and manage the IT budget, covering infrastructure and software for both production and corporate networks
Negotiate with service providers for favorable purchasing and service contracts
Communicate operational status and manage incidents with the executive team and the entire company
Manage the 24x7 technical support functions for all production systems and software
Manage the IT help desk function, in support of corporate IT
Supervise work products from engineers and manage team priorities on critical projects
Develop and maintain project schedules and evaluate and manage risks for critical projects
Investigate new technologies that may enhance Millennial's capabilities
Perform other activities and duties as required
Required Skills

Strong leadership ability, with a track record of building successful, well-performing teams
Strong ability to inspire others to achieve success and work as a part of a team toward collective goals
Strong ability to incentivize, motivate, and manage leaders and their teams
Strong ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, employees, external clients, and customers
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to apply them to peers, stakeholders, and teams
Ability to design and implement high volume, large-scale networks of systems, including specialized hardware such as SANs, NAS, load balancers, switches, etc
Ability to implement industry best practices and standards for support management of production and corporate systems
Ability to provide scalable computing services while maintaining fiscal responsibility
Ability to manage and negotiate vendor contracts
Education/ Experience

Bachelor’s degree Required, with background in Computer Science or Engineering preferred
Minimum 10 years working with Linux/Unix-based systems and network environments
Minimum 8 years’ experience as a director or other equivalent leadership level in a technical operations role
