Ok it's not quite New Year any more but it's our first meetup of 2017 and that's close enough. Join us for an evening of talks and networking hosted by our friends at Signal Media. Final programme includes:
• An intro from our hosts at Signal Media
• Vassilis Plachouras (Senior Research Scientist, Thomson Reuters): When to Plummet and When to Soar: Corpus Based Verb Selection for Natural Language Generation
Natural Language Generation for data-to-text tasks usually involves choices about the right words to express phenomena seen in the data. One common phenomenon centers around the description of trends between two data points and selecting the appropriate verb to express both the direction and intensity of movement. In this talk, I will present results from our work on quantifying writers' patterns of usage around verbs from news articles in order to achieve variation and naturalness in generated texts.
• Danica Damljanovic (Sentient Machines):Improving Natural Language Communication Using Speech Analytics
Sentient Machines is an early-stage startup in the realm of speech analytics. Our platform analyses natural language interactions within a company such as phone calls, and extracts core underlying issues and sentiment from them. The extracted information generates actionable insights and enables management to make data-driven decisions.
Plus drinks and nibbles from our generous hosts at Signal Media. Watch this space for updates!
