Yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar describes twists as a "squeeze-and-soak" action: During the twist our abdominal organs are compressed, pushing out blood filled with metabolic by-products and toxins. When we release the twist, fresh blood flows in, carrying oxygen and the building blocks for tissue healing. So from the physiological standpoint, twists stimulate circulation and have a cleansing and refreshing effect on the abdominal organs and associated glands. All twist poses can generally be categorized into seated, standing and reclining.
On & Off The Mat: 🧘🧘♂️
Twists are one of my very favorite groups of postures and are probably the most cleansing postures. As there is such an engaging collection of twists in yoga, you might guess that twists provide an abundance of benefits. That they do! Twisting Poses help restore the spine's natural range of motion, cleanse organs, stimulate circulation and focusing benefits to your consciousness. During the practice we will allow ourselves an opportunity to wring or squeeze out the old - letting go of whatever is weighing us down/ holding us back, whether that is thoughts, emotions or even people. From here we make space within ourselves for better and brighter/ new things/ opportunities to enter our life and once off the mat and our bodies feel more aligned we begin to feel almost lighter.
What to expect: 👀
A Hatha/ Vinyasa flow focused purely on twists from seated, standing to flat on our mat!
Join Sabrina Asana Tribe / Asana Tribe in this explorative twisting flow as she works through assorted options, taking us all over the mat! Squeeze out the old and Soak in the new!
The practice will start with Pranayama (breathing techniques) allowing us to center and enter the present moment, warming up the body and entering our twisted flow and its wonderful assortment of variations. Ending our practice with Savasana and Yoga Nidra 🤤🌈🦄
