Weren't able to get away for a backpacker this weekend? This is a good training hike for distance, at least, if not elevation. We will meet in front of the Bear Valley Visitor Center (map (https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Bear+Valley+Visitor+Center,+marin,+ca&hl=en&ll=38.041872,-122.798696&spn=0.008973,0.01929&sll=38.127846,-122.709106&sspn=0.286812,0.617294&hnear=Bear+Valley+Visitor+Center&t=m&z=16)) at 9:30am. I will wait about 10 min or until we have a critical mass, but if you're late here are the trails we'll be following: Bear Valley - Mt Wittenberg - Sky - Woodward Valley - Coast - Sky - Old Pine - Bear Valley (map (http://www.nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/upload/map_trailssouth.pdf)). We'll take a lunch break at either Sculptured or Kelham Beach. Total distance is 14.5 miles and while I'm not sure the total elevation change, this is NOT a flat hike! There is a great climb in the first two miles on the Mt Wittenberg trail followed by flat or downhill to the beach, and then after lunch we'll have to climb back over the hills to return.
It looks like it will be in the 80s and SUNNY! Please be prepared with whatever you need to be a self-sufficient hiker, including plenty of water, sun protection, food, etc.
If folks are up for it we can grab dinner afterword. There's also a little sandwhich place at the intersection of Sir Frances Drake and Highway 1 just before you reach the visitor center if you need caffeine or a sandwich.
