What we're about

Do you read for fun and delight? Need a break from Improving Books? Try P.G. Wodehouse! With his first book published in 1902 and his last in 1977, the creator of the iconic Jeeves and Wooster duo certainly knew how to put a sentence together. We of The Fourth Dimension, the first Zoom chapter of The P.G. Wodehouse Society, welcome you! We meet on First Saturdays from 11-Noon Pacific Time. Join us for revelry on a scale calculated to stagger humanity.

Though "inebriated newt fancier" may be more matter-of-fact than malicious, Aunt Dahlia's summation of Gussie Fink-Nottle is typical of the Wodehousian insult. Incisive. Punchy. Plenty of topspin. Ninad Wagle and Alison Strickland are here to give us further instruction in this intriguing field. They've kindly agreed to reprise their Riveting Talk from the recent Wodehouse Convention: "What the Well-Dressed Man Is Swearing: A Close Look at Wodehousian Insults." What could be sweeter? You may also enjoy reading "The Code of the Woosters," since it features in the Riveting Talk. And as always, feel free to bring your own favorite PGW insults to share. Hurray!

As we poke our snouts out of our wintry doorways and enjoy a meditative snuffle, what could be sweeter than some news from Blandings Castle, where spring and summer reign supreme? We'll launch into the Blandings short stories--I have the collection "Lord Emsworth Acts for the Best"--beginning with "The Custody of the Pumpkin." As usual, conversation will meander. Hurray!

Do not be alarmed by the April First date. Life is stern and life is earnest, and we soldier on with our customary shenanigans. Continuing with the Blandings collection, we'll read aloud from "Lord Emsworth Acts for the Best." Dogs welcome. Hurray!
