For a decade I lived in Tucson, surrounded by the Sonoran Desert and came to love its many seasonal and diurnal moods and aspects. For this meet up, we will take a mini-journey into the Mojave desert at Antelope Valley, mainly to enjoy the desert's annual spring blooming of myriad wildflowers, especially poppies. At the same time, we will enjoy the desert's liberating open spaces and unique terrain.

The vastness and gorgeousness of the poppy spectacle varies each year, depending on rains and other factors, but mid-April promises primetime viewing!

The preserve can get crowded on the weekends; however, I've scheduled this meet up on Sunday to give those of you who work a chance to attend. Bring a lunch to enjoy on the picnic tables after our hike through the preserve, and, if you care to, a side dish to share with others. Please bring your own plate, utensils, and cup. (We will provide coolers & ice.)

The poppy reserve offers great opportunities for photographers. This photo was taken in March 2016, but by April, the poppies will be in full bloom.

You can read all about the reserve at these links: Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/PoppyReserve) and Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve (http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=627).

Hike: We will plan to follow both main trails at the reserve (about 5 miles.) Both are easy trails.
