Hike in George F Canyon Preserve in Rolling Hills Estates

  • George F Canyon Nature Center

27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates CA 90274 , Rolling Hills Estates, CA (map)

    33.783710 -118.353195

  • At the Stein/Hale Nature Trail trailhead, on Palos Verdes Dr East, less than 1/10 mile south of the intersection of Palos Verdes Dr North and Palos Verdes Dr East
  • We will hike into George F Canyon and then into Rolling Hills. There are spectacular views of the city to the North, and beautiful trees, shrubs, flowers, and homes along the route.

We'll be exploring Georgette Trail (Stein/Hale Nature Trail), Saddleback Trail, Roadrunner Trail, Cork Tree Trail, Water Tank Trail, Blackwater Canyon Trail, Lower Willow Springs Trail, Davidson Trail, Sleepy Hollow Trail, Bowie Trail, Poppy Trail, Hesse's Gap, and others!

The hike is between 4 and 4-1/2 miles roundtrip, with approximately 800 feet of elevation gain.  We'll be walking on equestrian trails and some roads.  There are several steep areas with loose dirt, so sturdy shoes are a must, and hiking poles may be very helpful.

The hike will take about 2-1/2 hours, and those who are interested can join us afterwards for lunch at El Pollo Loco,  2940 Pacific Coast Hwy, Torrance, CA.

    We'll start hiking at 8:30am.

Paved parking is available at the Rolling Hills Estates Community Center and the George F Canyon Nature Center, with a short walk to the trailhead. Parking on dirt is available at the trailhead, which is on Palos Verdes Drive East (southbound side), less than 1/10 mile south of the intersection of Palos Verdes Dr North and Palos Verdes Dr East (it's very close!).

Please note that there are no restrooms at the trailhead.

George F Canyon is part of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy.

When we are in Rolling Hills, a private community, hikers need to keep in mind the old motto "Take only photographs, leave only footprints" and respect the quiet beauty of this community.
