What we’re about
The Thinkers’ Club is a discussion group intended to provide a fun, non-judgmental forum to share and debate intellectual and philosophical ideas with other critical thinkers. Come prepared to share concepts from history, philosophy, politics, religion, sociology, psychology, etc. that have influenced your thinking.
Members of all creeds, backgrounds, and walks of life are encouraged to attend. At The Thinkers' Club, we believe that intellectual discourse is best when we can explore - not dictate - views. On that note, bring an open mind and a friendly tolerance/respect for others' ideas.
Events are held virtually via Zoom.

Founded by Siddhartha Gautama, Buddhism centers around fundamental teachings known as the Four Noble Truths, which elucidate the nature of dissatisfaction/suffering (dukkha) and the path to liberation. Practitioners of Buddhism adhere to The Eightfold Path, which serves as a guide to ethical and mental development and encompasses principles such as action, intention, effort, and mindfulness. One distinctive and particularly noteworthy concept in Buddhism is "no self" (anatta), which challenges the notion of a permanent, unchanging self and emphasizes the interconnectedness of all phenomena. Overall, Buddhism provides a rich philosophical and spiritual framework for understanding suffering and the pursuit of enlightenment.
- Do you find resonance with the concept of dissatisfaction/suffering as outlined in the Four Noble Truths?
- Can you identify shared principles among Buddhism and other world religions?
- Should Buddhism be categorized as a religion?
- Considering Buddhism's emphasis on detachment and overcoming suffering, how does this align with or differ from other philosophical traditions?
- How does the concept of "no self" challenge or complement your understanding of identity?
