Let's Discuss... Right to Citizenship
Details
Who gets to claim citizenship, and who has the right to it? Countries grant citizenship through different means: by blood, by birthplace, or both. And some nations offer citizenship to immigrants, asylum seekers, or through investment programs.
This raises important questions:
In your ideal society, who has the right to citizenship?
Should people be allowed to hold dual citizenship, and does that interfere with rights and obligations?
If governments can offer citizenship, can they also revoke citizenship, and under what circumstances should they?
Should citizenship be stripped from those who commit serious crimes? Should it make a difference if they are native-born or immigrated in the past?
