ASSemble to honor a truly great artist - Frank Zappa!

I've been a fan of Frank Zappa since the age of 12 - he helped me become the ASSette that I am today. I plan on heading down to Baltimore to pay tribute to his great talent on Sunday, Sept 19 and you are welcome to meet up with me and do the same. Here's the schedule of events as I understand them, all for Sunday, Sept 19th:

10 a.m. -- "A Talk with Gail Zappa," at the Creative Alliance at The Patterson. (I clicked on a link in the article to RSVP and it brought me to the Creative Alliance home page, but I didn't see where I was to RSVP for the symposium - will check with them tomorrow)

noon -- Live performance by Arbouretum and other bands at Eastern Avenue and Conkling Street

2 p.m. -- Sculpture dedication ceremony at Eastern Avenue and Conkling Street, featuring Enoch Pratt Free Library President Carla Hayden, Gail Zappa, Mayor of Vilnius, Lithuanian delegation of donors, Mayor Stephanie C. Rawlings-Blake. Performance by Zappa Plays Zappa immediately follows ceremony.

The activities from noon-4pm are free. For those who won't want the fun to stop at 4pm, consider heading on to The Patterson for the Zappa Highlandtown Arts District After Party!

http://www.creativeal...

General admission show, $5; doors open at 6pm. Natty Boh's $1, good times sure to be had by all.

Personally, I'm going to play it by ear - I'd contemplate the 10AM symposium if I can access it, but as I said, will have to call the Creative Alliance tomorrow. Otherwise, I expect to be there at noon or a little before then to be in place when all the fun begins. Not sure as of yet about the after-party for me myself. But we don't have to make all those decisions right now, DO we? At this time, the weather forecast says "Mostly Sunny" but - who the hell knows. As always, we have to keep an eye on these meteorologists.

Couldn't make it to this, but Widespread Panic played Muffin Man at Pier 6 that night in honor of Zappa day!

What? Only 5 stars available. I give it 6 stars, and my Fender Pro goes to eleven.

This was another wonderful ASS meetup. It was Linda squared. An all to honor a great person, composer and performer Frank Zappa, who always had a certain Anti-Social Social message in his music and written word. Yellow Snow forever!

An incredible afternoon of sunshine, music and tribute to an amazing artist and composer...and I had no idea Jack had an umbrella hat.

If someone wants detailed directions or parking ideas, just ask. This is my stompin' grounds, so I know it well. I heard they are expecting a large crowd. The neighborhood is known as Higlandtown. As with even the best neighborhoods in the city, don't leave valuables in your car & certainly not in plain sight. Most of all of the parking will be parallel parking. Carpool with fellow ASSes. Best areas (safety-wise) to park in are south of Eastern Ave and the first 3 blocks north of Eastern.
