This is a group for anyone interested in developing writing skills, attending writing workshops, networking with other writers in the Bronx, etc. All skill levels are welcome. I started this group because I wanted to meet other writers in the beautiful borough of the Bronx. The Bronx is a large and diverse community, rich in culture and passion for life. It's the perfect breeding ground for all types of writers.
The purpose of the group is for members 1) to feel supported in their writing projects by other writers and 2) to create a space so that we can focus on our work without distractions and interruptions, and 3) network with other organizations in the Bronx to foster a writing community.
General meetings are a great place to start with our group. During these meetings, we have a critique session followed by a writing session. Members are encouraged--but not required--to bring food and beverages so that we can also socialize during these meetings. We have General meetings once a month, writing sessions are held weekly.
As for the writing sessions, members generally bring their own device (i.e. laptop, tablet, etc.) to work on. Some people in the group prefer to use notebooks or other handwriting materials. It's really up to you how you want to do the work. As this is a group made up of self-directed writers, everyone works on their own projects during writing sessions.
We have writers of different genres (sci-fi, YA, academic manuscripts, comic book, thriller, poetry, historical fiction, plus many more) and writers at all levels (published, never been published, amateur, expert and everything in between). It's a diverse group both in terms of demographics (age, gender, race, ethnicity, etc.), writing interests, and skill levels. We only share our work when we are doing a critique. Some writers send their critique to the group electronically, others bring a hard copy for the group to read (it depends on what the writer is comfortable doing).
