The Chapter Club is a social group for beginning black women novelists age 30+ in Houston. Our mission is to have fun socializing while encouraging one another in our novel-writing endeavors. While writing a novel is certainly a fulfilling task, it can also be a tough, isolating one. Hanging out with fellow novelists in a friendly and welcoming environment is just what the doctor ordered!
Our group gives members the opportunity to build friendships with other novel writers while enjoying activities that don't revolve around alcohol. Possible events include literary activities such as silent writing sessions (with breaks!) at libraries, book discussions, attending author events and literary festivals, and other fun activities such as restaurant, movie, and concert outings.
The Chapter Club is open to fiction writers in all genres who are currently in the early stage of the novel-writing process. While our goal is to celebrate aspiring black women novelists, this group is open to women novelists of all races, and non-black novelists are welcome. The Chapter Club was founded June 4, 2018 by Vernitra Jones, an aspiring novelist and children's librarian in Houston.
Message from the Founder:
Welcome fellow Novelist!
I'm so glad you found this group, and I hope you get something wonderful out of it. I created this group, because I wanted to meet other people like me who love to talk about novel writing and the creative process. If you constantly find yourself at work daydreaming about your novel or sitting at home watching author interviews on YouTube, then we already have some things in common! Stay tuned for event updates, and I look forward to meeting you!
