It'll be the one year anniversary of The Moderate Hikers hiking group and frankly, I'm thrilled that I've lasted that long and haven't lost one single soul on a trail yet!
Let's go back to where it all started, Wildwood Park, and do the same hike we did last year, but this time with a picnic:
Join us on this early evening picnic hike up the Santa Rosa trail to the Mount Clef ridge in Wildwood Park. We’ll start with a short jaunt on the Mesa Trail which will connect to the Santa Rosa trail as it ascends up Mount Clef. Once we reach the top, we'll stop and share food and wine, enjoy the sunset and watch the stars appear.
I'm rating this hike moderately strenuous because of the 900 ft. elevation gain but it's really nothing to cry over. There is a short, steep walk as we start up the Santa Rosa trail that will get us puffing a bit, but after that we do the fairly easy switchbacks. Once we're at the top, we'll be awarded views of the Conejo and Santa Rosa valleys and beyond.
Please bring some yummy food and beverage to share. It would be nice if you could post what you're bringing in the "talk about this meetup" section so we don't end up with six tubs of hummus and cheese!
We'll be packing in our goodies to share at the top.
I suggest you wear layers.
Bring a flashlight if you like.
Doggies are allowed only if they are fed, happy, well-behaved and picked up after (there are poop bags at the trailhead).
Trail: Varying wide and single track trails with packed earth and stony parts.
Elev. gain: 900 ft
Total miles: Approx. 2 miles r/t out and back
Feeling good afterwards: Priceless
I hope to see everyone that came last year, plus new faces!
DIRECTIONS: From the 101 fwy heading NORTH towards Ventura, exit Lynn Rd. and turn right. Go approx. 1 mile to Ave. De Los Arboles. Turn left on Arboles and drive to the end of the road. The parking lot is on your left.
