Let's do a hike to work up an appetite, then go have brunch at Le Pain Quotidien in Calabasas where we can stare at all the wealth.
Although there is a steady climb on this one, it's moderate and worth it to get to the top. This is an out and back trip on part of the Backbone trail. We'll pass unusual sandstone outcroppings on our climb to the top and be awarded with fantastic views of the Pacific, San Fernando and Conejo Valleys and beyond. This is one of my favs and not to be missed!
Elevation gain/loss: 950 ft.
Duration: Approx. 3 hours
Terrain: Varying packed earth with some rocky parts. Then paved parking lot to a patio.
Suitable for fit beginners as well as the seasoned hiker.
Bring plenty of water, 'kay? It's good for you!

DIRECTIONS: From the 101 Freeway exit Las Virgenes Rd. heading south towards Malibu. Make a left turn on Mulholland Highway and go about 4 miles to Stunt Rd and turn right. Take Stunt Rd. exactly 2.9 miles where you'll see a turnout on the left hand side where I'll be waiting. This is across the street from the trailhead and where we'll meet. Parking is limited here but there is a larger parking turnout nearby at miler marker 3. Carpooling is recommended.
