Let's start this caper at The Gardener's Arms in Jericho

A relaxed, older style pub with a nice atmosphere, a good selection of beers and vegetarian food. There's free parking in surrounding streets, lamp posts for bicycles, jumpers for goalposts, and a garden if the weather takes an unexpected turn. Look for The Roaring Forties table signs.

And please bring a pound for the coffers!

Lovely to see some familiar faces and to meet some new people too. Such a welcoming group, quirky venue and friendly bar staff. Thanks for organising Neil... See you at another event soon... x

My only comment on venue is that its a long walk back to Westgate, missed a bus & had to taxi home. Pub otherwise fine

Yeah there were food smells there but do you know what, where there is cooking there are going to be cooking smells. What can you do. What I really liked about the place was the fact we had that large room just for our meet up which was awesome and saved any embarrassment of attempted conversation with a stranger who really doesn't want to interrupted or spoken with. The room could have been decorated with gold leaf, I wouldn't have noticed I was more interested in what people had to say. The bar staff were friendly and I met and spoke with some lovely people. I thought the place had a really nice feel to it. I'd go again.

I suppose it's hard to find a venue that suits every single person, but I hope that this pub isn't off the menu, so to speak. From my point of view it looks easy to find from Oxford rail station and it looks great, so as I had to miss Thursday evening, I hope there will be future events held there. Thank you Neil for organising all the events. Craig's comment has just made me smile. I'm always failing the final test in most of my endeavours Craig!!:-)

I think that's a fair point, Moira. As with much else, pub preferences are a matter of personal taste, but we'll be exploring lots of different venues in future, so hopefully they'll be something for everyone. Feedback is borne in mind however :)

I like the Gardeners too. I found it easy to park and to locate the pub. Disappointed that I failed the final test and didn't manage to find you all when I arrived. Thanks for continuing to arrange great events in interesting places, Neil. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Well I feel compelled to defend the Gardeners - i like it and would happily attend another event there! Thanks for organising it, Neil. It was a great evening.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to make last night's event, at the last minute, but before I had to cancel, like Karen I was very apprehensive about walking through the door as I know no-one. So it is wonderful to learn how friendly and welcoming everyone is....what a great group of people you are! I don't think I can make the next two events but I am so looking forward to eventually meeting everyone. Have a good weekend!

No, sorry I know nothing about the kinda films you like. I've never seen a 'Spider Man' film. they are probably entertaining, and may have hidden depths for all I know. I can't talk. I saw 'The double' this pm hmmm.

Great to meet so many people last night. Thanks everyone for coming along and being such good fun. Any comments, positive or negative about the event and venue, please feel free to share, and could I ask people if they feel comfortable to upload photos, simply for identification purposes. There are a few folk I met last night whose names I'm struggling to remember and a photo always helps!

Hadn't realised there would be a waiting list, I should have signed up later. Hope I might get a place as was looking forward to it.

    • Neil

There 'might' be enough space at the pub Moira, but I was erring on the side of caution... 50 people in a small-medium sized pub could become very cosy! People often change their plans at the last minute, so you may well get lucky. Otherwise, do come along to the Albion Beatnik event if possible. A really lovely place to meet people and chat :)

      April 9, 2014

  • Neil

Can I suggest that if you want to eat at the pub, you get there early? It's a small kitchen and a large influx of Roaring Forties could put the staff under considerable strain! Menu here: http://www.thegarden-oxford.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Menu-Version-Interior.pdf
