What we're about

If you've ever wanted to walk further in your spiritual journey and discuss topics that move God out of the box we, humans, created, or have ever had questions and doubts and might have heard in response, "We don't discuss those things here," this book club is for you! My hope is to create a safe space for people from all walks of life and backgrounds to come together to ask the hard questions:

What is heaven? Is hell a real place?

What is our purpose in life?

How is sexuality spiritual?

What is the Bible really about?

Together, we hope to grow in our journeys, however messy and full of detours, as we become students who explore and discuss Rob Bell’s works.

Join the Facebook group in conjunction with this Meetup group, which allows us to easily communicate and share ideas, YouTube videos, links, and thoughts throughout the week, and in between book club meetings.

What is the Bible? - Intro & Chapter 1 - Chapter 5

Center 615

Happy Spring! We will have our first meeting discussing the Introduction as well as Chapter 1: "Moses and His Moisture" through Chapter 5: "Anakephalaiossathai" of What is the Bible?

A brief intro to the book:

"Some people see the Bible as an outdated book of primitive, barbaric fairy tales that we have moved beyond. And so they ignore it, missing all of the progressive and enlightened ideas that first entered human history through the writers of the Bible—ideas and ideals we still fall far short of, ideas and ideals that are still way ahead of our present consciousness and practice.

And then there are the folks who talk about how important and central and inspired the Bible is but then butcher it with their stilted literalism and stifling interpretations, assuming that it says one thing and if you just get that one thing, then you’ve read it well.

But you, I want you to read the Bible in a whole new way.

This is a book about a library of books dealing with loss and anger and transcendence and worry and empire and money and fear and stress and joy and doubt and grace and healing, and who doesn’t want to talk about those?"

Please come prepared to discuss your first thoughts and impressions on the reading.
