The Weekly Dinner - DC Pages

The Weekly Dinner Group of Social Foodies!

What, may you ask, is a social foodie?

It's an individual who enjoys eating, drinking and socializing. The Weekly Dinner Group holds weekly events at different restaurants in the area, providing a forum for all our social foodies. Although our core concept is a dinner event one night a week (hence, our name - The Weekly Dinner), we also organize brunches, music events, happy hours and other social gatherings.

The Origins

The founder of the Weekly Dinner, Erik, was the original man in the know who organized get-togethers for friends.

As time went by, the group of friends started getting larger and larger and inevitably, a friend or two wouldn't receive the customary phone call giving them the scoop on that week's event. After a few "why didn't you invite me" fiascos, Erik moved the management of the group to where he posted event details for all his friends to see. In February 2005, as a "social experiment" the group was opened to the public. Thus the Weekly Dinner was born. About a month after going public, the group broke the 100 member barrier.

A few months later in May 2005, Erik finished his degree and moved to California. Although his departure was lamented (by those who loved him) we also rejoiced (at least by those of us who loved food) that he bequeathed the management of this group to four able-bodied individuals who were able to fill his Organizer shoes. Shortly thereafter, the Weekly Dinner group broke the 200 member mark.

Where are we now?

Running Strong. Currently the group is managed by 6 local organizers, new chapters were opened in Minnesota by a former DC member, and orginal Group Founder Erik has settled down in the Bay Area of California and opened a San Francisco Chapter!

The DC membership base has grown more than 1000% in three years. In January 2006, we started off the new year by breaking the 500 member barrier, January 2007: 1200+ members, January 2008: 1,700+ members, and now in January 2009 we've reached the 2000+ member barrier!

It seems each week brings new members. Whoever thought this phenomenon called eating would become so popular?
