This place gets top scores from those that attended prior dinner over the years.
I'm in a mood for really great Italian at not 4-star pricing (i.e. this isn't one of my budget series events, but for the quality it's value -- imo it's 'Tier-1' dining in DC) to one of my favorites places for excellent Italian & great classy service. We're heading back to Tosca for a 'dressier' night out :)
Ranked (http://www.washingtonian.com/restaurantreviews/100-very-best-restaurants-2013-tosca.php): 2013's Washingtonian Magazine's 100 Best Restaurants (and in 2012, 2011, 2010 ... etc.)
Editor's Pick (http://www.washingtonpost.com/gog/restaurants/ristorante-tosca,1028250.html) in the Washington Post
http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/e/3/6/1/600_12538209.jpeg FOOD: Modern Northern-Italian. Executive Chef Massimo Fabbri produces very good food here using seasonal ingredients. LOVE the housemade pastas & other main entrees here.
Service is very much classy European-style. That means nicely-dressed, knowledgeable servers, which aren't worried about turning over a table (especially at the end of a great dinner). Sit back, order an expresso here & mingle with your dining companions. Then maybe order another expresso lol.
This will definitely be a 2.5 - 3 hour dinner. Please be warned if you choose to RSVP / attend (no asking for separate checks or leaving early)
A nice Tosca feature is they allow their in-house pasta dishes to be either your main Entree OR (as a smaller portion) your Starter. This way if you really want to try a pasta but not as your main entree (& are willing to skip the normal starters, which aren't slouches either), it's a win-win. Or sample 2 pastas without getting stuffed!
Prices are definitely on the higher-end than most Weekly Dinner events. Outside of pastas (mostly in the 20s), other main courses typically start in the mid-30s range. You'll see the $ reflected in high-quality food ingredients, but it's definitely not uber-expensive Tasting Menu prices :) HOWEVER there are optional tasting menus at differing price points, if so inclined (also means your dishes will come out at different times vs the a la carte diners, not a biggie).
Entrees though are delectable. Tosca likes to start off with a complementary Amuse Bouche, & then tastiness continues. If still available, consider especially the Free-Range Veal Chop (http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/2/a/4/6/highres_148990822.jpeg) served in a Barolo Wine Sauce (HUGE), Boneless Lamb Strip Loin or any of their fish dishes (some often available very simply prepared like in Italy). As for pastas. definitely consider the Black Ink Tagliatelle w/ Jumbo Crab Meat, Poached Artichokes & Roasted Garlic (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wT-okguntrM/TwwzSNqlxxI/AAAAAAAAC_8/yJpQ7Jg_qnc/s1600/IMAG0995.jpg) or the Carrot Pappardelle w/ Rabbit Ragu in a White Wine Sauce (http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/6/1/f/9/highres_48685081.jpeg), both found under the optional Tasting menus but available a la carte too. Both are winners.
Save room for dessert if you can. I particularly like Tosca's Modernized Tiramisu (http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/6/2/2/b/highres_48685131.jpeg).

(note though, the menu is always subject to change based on ingredient availability)
SPACE: Very nice looking space. Interesting artwork the last time I went here ;)
Dress code is business casual (not a big deal for most of us as this event is on a worknight), but I've schlepped here before in nice dark jeans & shoes.

CLOSEST METRO: Metro Center [Red, Orange, and Blue Lines]. Quick 1 block walk from the Metro, closest entrance/exit at "12th and F" Street
For directions using the Metro, try using the Trip Planner at the WMATA website (http://www.wmata.com/tripplanner_d/tripplanner_form_solo.cfm).
PARKING: $8 Valet parking is available. Also, there's on-street metered parking & garages galore as well.
Otherwise, the 13th Street PMI Garage is one of the few in DC that's 24/7, that's my favorite garage to goto in the area:
1325 G Street, NW
Entrance: on G Street between 13th and 14th Streets, NW
Need to Contact the Restaurant? [i.e. confirm location, notify to the group if running late, etc.]. Text on your phone to[masked] (i.e. GOOGLE) and type the restaurant name + the city/state in the message body. Google Business Services (http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sms.html#p=default) will text you back with the address and phone #!
1. Limited to 24 slots.
2. If you RSVP "YES" please make sure you can definitely make it. With 3,800+ members and limited seating, we cannot afford no-shows. It's unfair to the other members who would like to attend and also to the organizers who have to explain to the restaurant why the reserved # of guests didn't show (can damage our reputation). No-Show rules apply (http://tinyurl.com/5byotq).
3. Event already full?, waitlist for the event!. Use the Waitlistoption (the Organizer for each event will enable this as needed). Also, check back regularly as attendees have been known to cancel up to Noon the day of the event.
4. Billing (add 30% tax/tip to your bill). Remember, include the required 30% for tip / tax in addition to the food / beverages you order as defined in our FAQs (http://diningout.meetup.com/149/messages/boards/view/viewthread?thread=1650845#[masked]).
