MITCH JOEL: Reboot your business. Reboot your life. Your future depends on it.

We’re kicking off our Third Tuesday #3TYYZ with a bang with none other than digital marketing rock star Mitch Joel. Mitch will be speaking to us about his new book CTRL ALT Delete. While Mitch's first book, Six Pixels of Separation, was about how (and why) new media had changed business forever, CTRL ALT Delete answers the question "now what?"; Now that everyone is on social networks, sharing and conversing, how do you pivot your business to capitalize on just how much our world has changed, and get the edge on where all of this is taking us?

AGENDA

5:30 p.m. Doors open, meet new and old friends

6:00 p.m. Presentation, followed by Q&A session

6:45 p.m. Community mix and mingle

BONUS: Every attendee will receive a copy of “CTRL ALT Delete” when you check in at the event. So, you not only can hear and meet Mitch Joel, you can get your copy of the book personally signed by the author.

ABOUT CTRL ALT Delete

The transition of all industries into the fully-digital future leaves everybody caught in a middle ground - it's not heaven, it's not hell and it's very confusing. Businesses and employees are not sure where things are headed or what they must do to survive and thrive.

In short, this is a time of purgatory.

In his new book, CTRL ALT Delete, Mitch Joel provides a roadmap for business and professional success through this purgatory. It explains the convergence of five movements that will change business forever, identifies seven triggers that will help individuals take advantage of those movements, and shows all readers how to make the necessary reboot - in effect, how to CTRL ALT Delete.

Divided into two sections (Reboot: Business and Reboot: You), CTRL ALT Delete explains five key movements, with examples from companies that are successfully making the right shifts, and also shows how individuals can move from just doing a job to doing the work that they were meant to do.

Everyone loves to hear Mitch Joel speak. Great choice.

Great to see Mitch Joel and certainly a lively presentation re the his view of the world esp privacy versus personalization. I feel that possibly there was a lot of time taken pointing out the success of non-pc devices (for a Third Tuesday audience anyway) but look at the stock of the PC makers versus Apple and also it is front page news re PC makers (HP just dropped from Dow Jones).
While I agree with one-screen concept I would say I spend less time researching purchases on my iPhone versus bigger screens - so I buy faster is this true for others. Would like to see a few stories there (but maybe in the book) and yes more stats and facts re details.
Certainly good Mitch pointed out some agencies are missing the boat which I believe to be true

A concise summation of Joel's thinking of late. The 'one screen' paradigm is a step forward in our conception of the Web and its possibilities. His insight on how to make time to write ("just find it-do it) was noteworthy.

Thank you sir! I've told a web developer friend of your Virtual Machine presentation at Word Camp. See you then, stay well.

I'm extremely biased in favour of Mitch Joel. I've had the pleasure of listening to him speak several times, and he has always been insightful and entertaining. I enjoyed his extrapolation on "One Screen" at the Third Tuesday event.

Here are my sketchnotes, fresh off the (digital) press! http://sach.ac/reboot - feel free to enjoy and share. =)

Thanks again Sacha. Your one-page sketchnote brings back many essential elements from the talk tonight, all at one glance. I've included it as an appendix inside my signed book (along with my own scrawled notes, which aren't nearly as clear as your sketchnote).

Thanks for sharing the direct link! Turned out I needed to tweak some params in my server config to deal with the load. =) sach.ac/reboot should work again!

It was a bit stuffy but cool considering how many people turned up at the event. Jam packed it was.

    Great talk by MJ :-)

Excellent as usual so into his stuff he never needs notes for his rapid fire presentation

Got message twice that spot was available however do not know how I can proceed from there????? What am I missing or is this a glitch in the system

I got the same message twice and I clicked on the link provided.

The first time it didn't work probably because someone else clicked before me.

The second time I clicked and was able to purchase a ticket

      Good luck!

      September 10, 2013

    • Stefan E.

I think many people get the same message and are likely on the site at the same time so whoever hits PAY NOW first likely gets it. Too bad there isn't a message saying something like that rather than sending you back to the page.

      September 10, 2013

  • Stefan E.

I have received 3 different emails suggesting there is a spot. When clicking on the last one I noticed the page said 149 coming and 1 spot available. It asked me to confirm Refund Terms and then PAY NOW but nothing happened; it just sent me back to the event page.

I am no. 2 on the wait list but also willing to buy a ticket if you have one and can't use it tonight.

    September 10, 2013

  • Bernadette

Should anyone have a ticket they can not use please contact me.

    September 10, 2013

    • Bob M.

And I would be happy to take a second one after Bernadette is taken care of. :-)

      September 10, 2013

    • Bernadette

I think it is highly unlikely that I will get one of those tickets as I put my name on the wait list with 20 people already waiting. Here is to wishing all that attend have a great time at the event. Thanks to the organizers and Mitch, as it proves to be a great evening for all.

Looking forward to sketchnoting this. =) Anyone else planning to take notes? I'd love to swap! I'll post the URL here and on Twitter as soon as I publish mine, and if you want to meet up, I'll probably be near the front sketching madly away on a convertible laptop.

Looking forward to seeing everyone! It's been too long! (p.s. for those of you who don't know, I moved back to Toronto last week)

Welcome back. Tara, we met many moons ago (if I recall, singing karaoke in New York!), hopefully we can reconnect. Sadly, I can't make it tomorrow night.

I am unable to wait list so if someone can assist that would be great

Also wondering how the Pilot can hold 150 people? I have been to events and i don't think the top floor is big enough.

    September 9, 2013

    • Diane B.

Hi Sharon, 150 is the max that the Pilot can hold.

    Hi
If the event is still sold out, can I still show up pay my $20 and get Joel's book? if there are some no-shows, then I'll hang around and hopefully get it. If not, I'll leave.
If any of the organizers are online, please let me know.
    Thanks
    Michael

Damn, I'd really like to attend but I don't think I can make it. From the list if looks like lots of my friends will be there, plus lots of people I know "online" and would like to hang out with IRL. ;-(

We'll see you one of these days, Alan. ;)

I hope so Connie. This is one event I really wish I could attend.

I heard Mitch's presentation at the U. Toronto Business School in June and have read the book. While I have a conflict, I do encourage others to benefit from Mitch's experience and wisdom.

This should be a really good event and I'm looking forward to it. I read Ctrl Alt Delete and gave it to a friend who is in the middle of a career transition.
