Description: We will be departing with Captain Hollis Barker of Blue Heaven Scuba (http://blueheavenscuba.com/) at 1:00. We will be diving the wrecks of the SPORT and the STRONG. The SPORT is a popular dive site of a 57 foot steelhulled tugboat that sank in a gale in December 1920. The vessel rests mostly upright with a starboard list in about 50 feet of water and rises to about 20 feet from the bottom. In 1992, Michigan’s first underwater historical marker was placed on the Sport to inform divers about the historical significance of the vessel. This plaque eventually deteriorated and was replaced in 2010 with great effort from a local dive club in Port Huron.
The second dive will be on the wreck of the STRONG. The ELIZA H STRONG lies in shallow water, swarmed by largemouth bass and sunfish, near the entrance to Lexington Marina. This is a beautiful dive that is often disregarded due to the shallow depth of the water, but makes an excellent dive to introduce you to wreck diving in Lower Lake Huron. These wreck sites serve well to introduce you to the procedures and techniques for boat diving. Space is limited, so sign up early! If the Captain cancels the charter due to inclement weather the fee will be totaly refunded.
Note: Must be certified scuba diver to attend this event
