New Meetup: Last Tubing in Helen & picnic afterwards

From: BobM
Sent on: Thursday, August 26, 2010 12:33 PM
Announcing a new Meetup for 35UP!!

What: Last Tubing in Helen & picnic afterwards

When: Saturday, September 4,[masked]:00 AM

Price: $4.00 per person

Where: Cool River Tubing
590 Edelweiss Strasse
Helen, GA 30545
[masked]

We had a blast last time and many of you wanted a do over. Well here's our last chance to enjoy it before the season is over till 2011.

Where: Cool River tubing company

What: Drift down the lazy and shallow river in an open or closed bottom tube. We will picnic, socialize, & chill at the end (they also have showers and restrooms).

You don't have to tube to join. You can sit by the river and enjoy all the happy faces.
We can also use a volunteer to take pictures when the group gets to finish.

Group rate applies to 10 or more purchased together. $5/person normal or $4/person in group.

What to wear? - Shorts and T-shirts or swimsuit, securely fitting shoes, and a stick to help you push off rocks:).

What to bring? - Cash, towel x2, change of clothes, sun screen, hat, shades (something you won't miss in case you loose them in water), food/drinks, cooler (for picnic after), and whatever else you need for day on the water.

What not to bring? - Jewelry, watches, things you will miss if you dropped, damaged, or lost in water; your call.

What happens if it rains? - Tubing is rain or shine unless it is thundering and lightning.

1st time Tubing? ? No problem. The river in Helen is mostly shallow with a few spots you can?t stand up. So shallow, that on times you will need to get up and move tube off rocks and into moving watersmile. A 4? stick comes in handy to push off rocks. Cool River sell those for a price (souvenir) but you can bring your own. Cool River will provide you a life jacket, if you need one. After we pay, we'll all get in their bus which will drop us up-river along with tubes, where we start tubing. They do have ties you can borrow (generally for kids) to tie the tubes up, but not necessary. Majority of the slow moving river (depending on the water level) is shaded by trees on the banks. Along the way we?ll pass vacation homes, a haunted house, bridges, water slide, restaurants with live music, a tree of lost soles(shoes found), and a couple of small rapids, with one decent one right after we pass the main Helen bridge; which is lot of fun however if you rather walk it, I?ll point it out if you are close to me. We end the journey same place we started. If we have some members waiting on shore, they can take the group?s pictures. I?ll have my water proof camera with me. If you don?t want your picture taken, turn around or we?ll do our best to frame you out. Trip is about 2 to 3 hours depending on recent rains.
Once back, they do have few showers and changing rooms as well as many picnic tables. Please bring a dish, snack, or your specialty food to share with the group. I?m bringing some snacks (chips, Humus, cookies, granola bars, nuts etc) for all. They do have grills if you want to cook, however I rather socialize with you all and enjoy munchies.
Lot of people asked about alcohol/beer policy. Being a host I will only provide you official answer; it is not allowed. They will not allow you on the bus if you have visible beer cans. Water bottles are allowed, just no glass. I?ve lost many pair of shades and even a watch and could not find it. You can leave your keys at the desk when checking in.
If you still have questions, email me and I?ll be happy to respond personally or in Comments section.

Carpool?
Please post if you can take others with you (riders please chip in $$ to drivers). How many and which location. I will be at Cumberland Mall/Costco gas station parking at 8.45am and leave at 9.00am sharp. I can take 3 more comfortably in my Camry or 4 that don't have space issues:). I will also stop at Hwy-400 exit-8 (Mansell rd) park & ride location at 9.25am to pick up more members, or other drivers that want to follow. We will leave there at 9.35am sharp.

Mansell rd exit#8 'Park n Ride' address - "1701 Mansell Road, Roswell, GA" Parking mid towards the highway
