Exploring Music with Graeme Walker

This location is shown only to members

One of our members (Graeme Walker) is holding an 'EXPLORING MUSIC’ evening

An event where people can join him for an evening aimed at folk who enjoy music but would like to know a bit more about the composers, background etc. "The setting is amazing...a lovely drawing room overlooking the Dean village"

As well as classical, he’ll cover other genres of music too. He’ll play cd's and DVD's as well as playing the £76,000 Steinway and talk about the background to the music - some of which will be coming up during the Edinburgh Festival. He hopes people may become interested in going as a group to concerts during the Festival and over the winter season by introducing some of the music and composers.

Wine, coffee and nibbles will be provided. There is an £8 charge.

Anyone interested can contact Graeme by message or just RSVP here.

Thank you for coming Joanne...sorry I didn't get a chance to chat to you...I think it was the best yet...greatly enhanced by Claudio playing his own composition, Graham Paton playing Handel beautifully and Rhona's demonstration of vibrato...probably the first time she's played a G major scale in public...the group singing of Leonard Cohen went well too...probably helped on by Bacchus the Greek God of wine...if Leonard was up there listening in, I'm sure he would have had a smile on his face....!

So sorry but just been informed that the premises are being used right up till 7pm so I will need to postpone the start for an hour. Please note that it's now 7.45 for an 8pm start . Please message me to let me know you've received the change of details...don't want folk turning up and having to stand in the street...!

Leonard Cohen has been on my mind the last few weeks...hoping to sing a tribute....with audience participation.....not compulsory of course so don't be put off by that.....I was chastised by someone last year for playing a dvd of "" an ageing crooner in a trilby...''....just makes me more determined to mix it....first we take Manhattan....then we take...
    Belford Road..?!

Since it's Christmas, I will play part of Bach's sublime Christmas Oratorio as well as dvd's of his joyful Mass in B minor, Handel's Messiah, Telemann....one of the most underrated composers of the 18th century,...
oh and Domenico Scarlatti and Bach on the steinway...
also.... hope to discuss how to prepare a piece for performance or exam with the minimum of tears and explore what performance anxiety involves, with tips to help overcome this.
All that AND wine, coffee and nibbles....
    has to be fun...!

I'd like to explore what conductors do, as well as what makes a great performance. As usual there will be a wide variety of music played in a relaxed and social atmosphere. A few of us are going to Mahler's 4th symphony on sunday afternoon and the Marriage of Figaro the following Sunday. Pm me if you're interested in coming.
