This is HCD Ireland, in collaboration with Futures Dublin, is excited to host an open, provocative discussion around the intersection of futures thinking and human centred design on Thursday 10th December.
With much of 2020 being a challenging, reflective year for humans and society, we would like this collaborative event to be an opportunity to consider the future as we approach the end of the year. What impact can futures design and strategic foresight have for humans, business and society as we move through, and hopefully beyond, the crisis that has defined 2020?

GUEST SPEAKERS:
Alanna Markle
Alanna Markle is a foresight analyst with a background in international development and political economy. Her work focuses on foresights’ application in a policy context, and she is currently an analyst with the OECD Strategic Foresight Unit. She is also an active member of the Joseph Jaworski Next Generation Foresight Practitioner Award Network, having won the national policy special award in 2019. Alanna is a native of the Appalachian region of the United States, but has lived and worked in Latin America, Africa and Europe.

Annelie Berner & Monika Seyfried
Annelie Berner is an interaction designer, data visualisation designer and researcher based in Copenhagen. In her work, she seeks to bridge between science, academia and the public, creating experiential and exploratory research on topics that range from ethics to climate science and futures. She has served as the Principal Investigator at CIID Research (Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design) on 3 EU-H2020 research projects. Annelie’s work has won multiple honours in the Core77 Design Awards for Strategy & Research, Speculative Design, Design Education Initiative, Design for Social Impact, Built Environments and Food Design, as well as having exhibited at the World Health Organisation, Red Bull Studios, The Georgia Museum of Art and Ars Electronica. She is a founding member of NEWINC, the New Museum’s incubator for artists, technologists and designers.
Monika is an Interaction Designer with a background in art, photography and filmmaking. In her work, she engages at the intersection of emerging technologies, digital media and the natural environment, creating sensory rich, interactive spaces. Monika’s practice focuses on building mixed reality worlds that blend the digital and physical, working with a speculative mindset and experimenting with design approaches. She investigates how immersive experiences that explore possible futures can define the role of ethics in building contemporary systems. In recent years she was involved in European Commision international academic research projects that explored topics of Critical Heritages, Fusion Energy Futures and Ethics & Technology collaborating with the institutions such as LSE, Newcastle University and IT University of Copenhagen. She has exhibited and presented internationally: Ars Electronica, 26th Biennial of Design in Ljubljana, Climate Action Summit at United Nations and World Economic Forum in Davos 2020 among others. Her work has been awarded by IXDA, Core77 Design Awards and Dezeen Awards.
