St. Patrick's Hike & Picnic

Saturday March 16,[masked]am

3.4 Miles RT Moderate 800 ft elevation gain

Break out your shamrocks and lucky charms and wear your green on this second annual festive hike and picnic! We'll prepare for our feast by hiking 3.4 miles to Wind Cave. The Wind Cave trail zig-zags through lush Sonoran desert and now blooming poppies, steadily gaining elevation. The trail steepens as you ascend and leads south along the base of lichen-stained cliffs. The cave, a wind-carved hollow measuring 12 feet high, is a great spot to enjoy views of Phoenix. A handful of clinging plants hang from the cave's ceiling and friendly chipmunks beg for trailmix! Most hikers end their trek here. If you're up for a challenge, Ron can lead you another half mile to the summit atop Wind Cave. This part is steep and rocky and requires all fours! At the top you can enjoy 360 degree views of the Superstitions, Four Peaks and Phoenix.

Afterwards we'll enjoy a picnic under the West Ramada ( (reserved for 3H from 9am-1pm). I will provide Irish Stew for everyone. Please bring your favorite dish or side. We will also need veggies, fruit, dessert, drinks (beer/wine permitted in Park), cups/plates/bowls, forks/spoons,etc. Please indicate in your RSVP what you are bringing so we don't duplicate items! NO GLASS CONTAINERS. Propane grills only. Restrooms with running water on-site.
