We are a community exploring key topics and issues relevant to creating a thriving business in today's environment. Through our innovative conversations, workshops, challenges, and networking, we encourage our community to think holistically about the role of business in the community and how to achieve both positive community impact and financial returns.

This group was formed by Uptima Business Bootcamp (http://uptimabootcamp.com/), an innovative member-owned business accelerator dedicated to providing entrepreneurs with greater access to hands-on education, resources and community to create thriving businesses. Uptima's programs support freelancers, small business owners, and startup founders to start, plan, grow, fund, and keep their businesses in their communities.

Join Uptima Business Bootcamp’s 6-week Freelancer course. Program runs in Oakland and San Francisco from February-March. In our Freelancer course, we guide you through a hands-on process of defining your service offering, developing client relationships, and establishing the foundation to thrive as an independent contractor. We combine in-person workshops with one-on-one mentorship, peer groups and an online learning environment to help you succeed. This course is well suited for individuals seeking self-employment in a personal or professional services industry, or as a writer, artist, or musician. The business assistance part of the program is provided by Uptima Business Bootcamp. It includes free one-on-one business advising and workshops to help business owners create an action plan, find funding, and implement their plans to keep their small businesses or non-profits in Berkeley. But, investing some time in developing a strategic plan that communicates your business’ goals and actions for the next quarter or year can really help take your business to the next level. This interactive workshop will help you review your business’ mission, vision, and values. You will identify your business’ strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. And, you will use that information to establish strategic priorities for the next quarter or year. Mike Gabriel is an experienced investment and strategy professional with over 10 years in the social enterprise sector. Mike is currently an Associate CFO for SoProCFO, scalable CFO and accounting services for high growth, high impact social enterprises. Prior to SoProCFO, Mike created and managed RSF Social Finance’s Regenerative Economy Fund, which deploys flexible and innovative financing to social enterprises that are working to accelerate the transition to an economy based on circular economic principles. Previously, Mike served as the Asia Regional Manager for Grameen Foundation’s capital markets team, focusing on providing financing and financial advisory services to microfinance institutions and other businesses focused on alleviating poverty. Mike received his Bachelor’s in Latin American and Iberian Studies from Vanderbilt University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Thunderbird School of Global Management.
