This will be the 10th year for a toy drive to benefit children in Baja California from homes of limited means - many from families that may not be able to afford gifts through the winter holiday time for their children.
The event has - throughout this time - been coordinated by Fernando Garcia, in conjunction with members of the online site BajaNomad.com. Tijuana Walking Tours members are invited to join us this year for the actual distribution day in the Tijuana area on January 17th, 2016.
Donated toys are collected ahead of that date, for planning purposes - not the day of the event. More details below - and this page will be updated as we get closer to Jan 17th.
Generally this is an all day activity, where we meet in the morning, pick up the toys and load them in a truck or bus to take to an event location where we meet up with the families. After distribution, some of us then go have an inexpensive dinner together and talk about the day - while others choose for us to drop them back at the border instead of joining the dinner group.
At the event, besides toys, families are also provided with traditional Dia de Reyes meals consisting of tamales (when we can afford them), and champurrado.
More information - for now - is available at the following locations online (there are photos from the past 9 years' events at both locations as well):
We'll specify the meeting point (or two) as the day approaches, and also update the time, if needed.
Hope you can join us on January 17th.
